Fila Signs Tennis Player Timea Babos

Athletic brand Fila inked a multiyear deal with Hungarian tennis player Timea Babos.

The 22-year-old WTA Tour player, who reached the doubles final at Wimbledon in 2014 and then again a year later in mixed doubles, began wearing Fila earlier this year, at tournaments in China and Sydney.

Babos made headlines last week when she upset rising British player Heather Watson in three, hard-fought sets in the first round of the Australian Open.

But the good run for Babos, who previously had endorsement deals with Adidas and K-Swiss, didn’t last long. She lost in straight sets in her next match to Belinda Bencic (6-3, 6-3).

She also was defeated in the second round of the tournament with doubles partner Katarina Srebotnik. They had been ranked No. 4.

Babos was decked out in gear from Fila’s spring ’16 platinum collection — in particular, its asymmetrical halter top and matching skirt.

Ranked 60th on the WTA Tour, Babos is the second tennis player to be added to Fila’s roster this month.

Three weeks ago the company signed a multiyear endorsement deal with John Isner, the 11th ranked American tennis player.

Fila’s stable of tennis stars now includes Sam Querrey, Andreas Seppi, Jelena Jankovic and Nadia Petrova, as well as several others.
