Adidas Seeks More Hits With Singer Rita Ora

Singer Rita Ora, an Adidas ambassador, is looking to make more hits with the brand.

The company said Adidas Originals and the pop star would launch a collection called Asian Arena, hitting stores Feb. 6 The line, based on the allure of the Japanese geisha, features street styles that “are boldly restructured as a nod to the wide arms of the classic kimono and the origami-esque structure of the obi,” Adidas said in a statement.

The collection prominently uses all-over prints of Oriental landscapes and other graphic touches, such as Adidas’ three-stripe taping, trefoils and straps.

The sneakers, in particular, mix fashion and sport. The ZX Flux NPS Up style uses graphic prints and 3D finishes.

A reversible, classic bomber jacket is also part of the collection. That, too, includes traditional Japanese motifs and calligraphy.

Adidas North America head Mark King told Footwear News last summer the company would focus on its Originals line with more partnerships with pop stars like Ora, Kanye West and Pharrell Williams.

“All of our advertising and brand communication is now created here [in the U.S.],” King said at the time. “We’re launching products out of rhythm [with the rest of the group] to make more sense for the U.S.”
