Skechers Signs NFL Hall Of Famer Howie Long

Skechers USA Inc. has added another hall of famer to its growing roster of endorsers.

The Manhattan Beach, Calif.-based brand announced Monday that it has signed sportscaster and former NFL defensive end Howie Long to a multiyear deal, during which Long —a Super Bowl champion with the Raiders in 1984 — would serve as a spokesman for its men’s collections.

I’m excited to be joining the Skechers team and following in the footsteps of so many amazing athletes and stars who have appeared on their roster,” Long said in a release. “From the field to the studio, I’ve spent a lifetime of Sundays on my feet, so it feels great to add some Skechers comfort to my wardrobe.

The first television commercial is set to launch in time for the 2016-17 football season and will feature the brand’s latest men’s collection. An ongoing television, print and digital campaign will follow that is expected to continue across all media through 2018.

Beginning with his career in Oakland and Los Angeles to more than two decades appearing every Sunday on television during football season, Howie is a trusted and familiar face to millions of football fans,” said Skechers president Michael Greenberg in a release. “Just like legends Joe Montana and Sugar Ray Leonard, we know that Howie is an ideal person to join our team and continue spreading the word about our incredibly popular footwear to the millions of men who love our comfort-focused collections.”

Past Skechers men’s campaigns have featured musician Ringo Starr as well as former professional athletes such as Joe Namath, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Rick Fox.

This year, Skechers also unveiled partnerships with MLB hall of famer Ozzie Smith and professional golfers Russell Knox and Ashlan Ramsey.
