Queen Elizabeth Celebrates Her 90th Birthday In Style

Let the celebrations begin. For Queen Elizabeth‘s 90th birthday, Britain’s longest-reigning monarch stepped out in her signature horsebit loafers, a style she has worn for the past five decades.

The Queen, in her signature horsebit loafers, greeted well-wishers.

Thousands of well wishers were in Windsor, England to fete the Queen on the historic day. As usual, she looked elegant in a grass-green custom-made coat and matching hat adorned with flowers. The ensemble was designed by Angela Kelly, who has been the Queen’s loyal senior dresser for many years. The birthday girl, who energetically greeted the crowd, also wore an antique diamond brooch, one of her favorites.

Tonight, the royal family will join the Queen and Prince Philip for a special dinner at Windsor. The youngest royals — Prince George and Princess Charlotte — posed with their great grandmother in adorable new photos, released this week. In one, captured by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz, Charlotte proudly sits on the Queen’s lap. In another, George joined the Queen, Prince Charles and Prince William to pose for the new royal stamp. (The future king George showed off his favorite Start-rite style.)

Meanwhile, some other big names are arriving soon to toast the monarch. Tomorrow, the Queen will dine with President Obama and the first lady. Celebrations will continue in Windsor next month and then again in London in June. A 90th birthday fit for a queen, indeed.
