Hood By Air Showed Some Really Crazy Boots On The Runway

Hood By Air‘s Shayne Oliver is one of fashion’s newest, and greatest, disrupters. Not one to disappoint, his spring ’17 show pushed a new footwear idea: double-faced Western boots, with pointy toes on both the front and back. Call it the new two-step.

The experimental style, designed in collaboration with Frye, was debuted in embossed leathers such as sprightly red and yellow, and even teal green. Call him crazy, but at least the shoe was original. Wearability isn’t a word that’s necessarily in the forefront of Oliver’s mind. Plus, the double-sided symbolism (is that the front or the back?) wasn’t totally lost on the collection’s focus, which aims to flip gender norms around, too.

Elsewhere in the collection, Oliver’s clothes featured his signature deconstruction work. Jeans were spliced and had zippers up the front, and worn with squared steel-toe boots. T-shirts and polos were emblazoned with words including “Wench” or “Hustler.” Gimmicks aside, though, the designer’s less-abrasive designs, like a draped off-the-shoulder white cotton top, were perfectly modern.
