Some of the models who found trouble in trotting down the catwalk in heels at New York Fashion Week are in good company.
Among the casualties of loose footing during the spring ’17 shows, which wrapped Sept. 15, were Bella Hadid on the Michael Kors Collection runway, and at least two models at Kanye West’s Yeezy Season 4 presentation.
Below, we take a look some of the memorable runway tumbles by some seasoned models over the years.
Candice Swanepoel: Givenchy, Spring ’15
When an Angel falls, it hurts. Victoria’s Secret model Candice Swanepoel walked away with bruises, scratches and a bloody knee after tripping during the Givenchy spring ’15 show at New York Fashion Week. Fortunately, the fall didn’t beat down her spirits. “(L)eft with little scratches but mostly a bruised ego,” she captioned a photo of her battle scars on Instagram.
Naomi Campbell: Vivienne Westwood, Spring ’94

The queen of the catwalk took one of the most famous spills of all time when she toppled over in 9-inch Vivienne Westwood platforms at the designer’s spring 1994 show. Speaking to David Letterman in an interview a year later, she recalled how onlookers reacted. “Nobody moved a muscle in their faces — they were nervous until I started laughing, and then they were laughing, too,” she explained. “I got up and continued, but I haven’t done so badly.”

Kanye West chose New York City’s Roosevelt Island for his outdoor spring ’17 presentation. For some models, the designer’s shoes caused some mishaps — including one who suffered a broken heel and struggled like a baby giraffe walking for the first time, and another who kicked off the shoe at the end of the runway and carried it off in her hand.
Karlie Kloss: Fendi 2011
All eyes probably didn’t catch supermodel Karlie Kloss tumbling as she was exited the catwalk at a Fendi show in 2011. Pity there was a camera around.
Agyness Deyn: Fashion Relief for Haiti, Fall ’10
Agyness Deyn took a spill not once, but twice during the Fashion Relief for Haiti show in 2010. The British supermodel was flattened after she lost her balance in strappy platforms.
Karen Elson: Zac Posen, Fall 2008-09
Karen Elson laughed off her fumble on the runway at Zac Posen’s fall 2008-09 show. She was helped back up to her feet by supermodel Caroline Trentini, and front-row guest Diddy extended a helping hand, too.
Bella Hadid: Michael Kors Collection, Spring ’17
Rising supermodel Bella Hadid fell to her knees during the Michael Kors Collection runway show at New York Fashion Week wearing a pair of the label’s new soaring sandals. The shoes appeared to have a nearly 5-inch heel and 2-inch platform.
