You could see right through the shoes at Balmain for spring ’17: They were constructed of acrylic Plexiglas.
Sidestepping away from his slavishly stiletto-clad ways, designer Olivier Rouseting gave models an easier way to get down the greenery-arched runway at Paris Fashion Week. High-pitch wedges were a sort of hybrid sandal bootie with either clear soles (a troubling, pervasive trend for the season) or color-tinted versions.
While retailers love them, a wedge of this sort hasn’t been relevant nor a runway mainstay in a while. As such, some models appeared to shuffle down the catwalk in them, unsure of how exactly to stride.
This abruptly stopped when Rouesting sent out a more current version: flatforms. Of course, this being Balmain, they were coated in chain mail, as seen on Gigi Hadid. A cut-out, skintight gown and these shimmering clompers? Why not?
