Turns out it’s not only Demna Gvasalia with the prerogative on quirky. When it came to Celine‘s footwear this season, Phoebe Philo let rip her inner eccentric old lady, sending out mismatched shoes with unaccustomed abandon on Sunday at Paris Fashion Week.
Ankle boots with flared heels came in red and white, black and red or a more sober black and tan, while sandals with stark squared toes came in equally stark monochrome.

The sandals — toe straps and all — were also layered over cream waders, as were the new season iteration of Philo’s glove pumps.
And while there were also more regular combinations, matching footwear is starting to feel ever so slightly pedestrian.
