Industry Moves: January 2017

Jan. 31, 2017: After a little more than a year with the brand, Under Armour CFO Chip Molloy has decided to leave the company due to personal reasons. Effective Feb. 3, David Bergman, SVP of corporate finance, will serve as acting CFO. Molloy — who participated in his final conference with Under Armour on Jan. 31 — will remain with the company in an advisory capacity to assist with the transition.

Jan. 18, 2017: Effective Feb. 1, Serge Ruffieux will become the new creative director of Carven, replacing Alexis Martial and Adrien Caillaudaud, who left the French fashion house in October. Ruffieux will oversee all women’s ready-to-wear, footwear and accessories lines, with his first collection debuting this spring during the resort 2018 season. Previously, Ruffieux and his partner, Lucie Meier, led Dior’s women’s collections design team.

Jan. 17, 2017:  Brooks Running Co. has promoted Dan Sheridan to EVP and GM of global sales. In this role, Sheridan will lead the development of Brooks’ wholesale business. Sheridan spent 19 years at Brooks and most recently led sales management, e-commerce, regional marketing execution, business development and customer service in North America.

Jan. 16, 2017: Burberry Group PLC announced that Marco Gobbetti, who was appointed to the role of the CEO last summer, will join the company on Jan. 27 but not will become CEO until July. In July 2016, Gobbetti was appointed new CEO of the British fashion house, replacing Christopher Bailey. Burberry said Gobbetti will initially hold the role of executive chairman, Asia Pacific and Middle East until July 4 and will become CEO on July 5. Bailey will continue as chief creative officer and CEO until July 4. He will transition to the new role of president and chief creative officer on July 5, and will remain on the board.

Jan. 16, 2017: Outdoor standout Salomon has appointed Guillaume Meyzenq to the role of VP of the company’s footwear category. Meyzenq, who has been an employee at Salomon since 1994, was previously the VP of commercial footwear. Meyzenq will now be responsible for innovation, product marketing, design, development and sourcing, among other things, for the Salomon Footwear category.

Jan. 16, 2017: Slip-resistant footwear maker Shoes for Crews LLC announced that Timberland veteran Jim O’Connor is joining the company as VP and GM of its industrial business. O’Connor spent 14 years at Timberland in a variety of leadership positions. He most recently served as GM and VP of the Timberland Pro Series industrial boot business.

Jan. 13, 2017: Sarah Rutson, VP of global buying at Net-a-Porter, has resigned from her post. Rutson, who helped the luxury e-tailer land several high-profile and exclusive collaborations during her two-year tenure, joined Net-a-Porter from Hong Kong-based Lane Crawford, where she spent more than two decades.

Jan. 12, 2017: VF Corp. has confirmed today that Todd Spaletto, former president of The North Face brand, is no longer with the company. Scott Baxter, group president of VF’s Outdoor & Actions Sports Americas coalition, is managing the day-to-day responsibilities until a replacement is named.

Jan. 12, 2017: Footwear and apparel retail platform True Fit has appointed Troy Brown to the role of chief retail officer. In this new role, he will lead True Fit’s go-to-market team and oversee all aspects of sales and delivery. Prior to True Fit, Brown was acting VP of North American sales at Demandware.

Jan. 9, 2017: Nine West Holdings Inc. named Joel Oblonsky as CEO of the Nine West and Bandolino division. Oblonsky, a 20-year industry veteran, most recently served as president of Ralph Lauren’s Polo and Lauren Footwear brands. From 1991 to 2004, Oblonsky served in a variety of management roles within the Nine West Group.

Jan. 6, 2017: Esquire Footwear, which produces footwear under licensing agreements for Disney, Nickelodeon, Build-A-Bear and other companies, has named Larry Paparo its president of sales and business development. Paparo was previously the founder and CEO of LJP international, the footwear partner for Bruno Magli, Ben Sherman, Robert Graham and other brands.

Jan. 5, 2017: Chrome Industries, maker of messenger bags, backpacks, footwear and apparel, has named Slate Olson its new president. The announcement comes at the same time that the company unveiled its plans to relocate its headquarters to Portland, Ore. Olson will officially take the helm in mid-January, and the company will move from San Francisco to Portland in early April. Olson comes to Chrome after two years as chief marketing officer at Specialized Bicycles in Morgan Hill, Calif.

Jan. 4, 2017: Shoe and accessory wholesale company J. Reneé Group has hired Mark Diehl as its new EVP of sales, effective Jan. 11. Diehl joins J. Reneé after holding positions at footwear brands such as Earth, Ecco Dansko and Mephisto.

Jan. 4, 2017: Coach Inc. has hired Kevin Wills as its new CFO, effective no later than this March. Wills joins Coach from business consulting firm AlixPartners LLP, where he has served as managing director and CFO since March 2014. Prior to AlixPartners, Wills was EVP and CFO of Saks Inc., former owner of the Saks Fifth Avenue, Saks.com and Off 5th franchises, where he worked for nearly 16 years.
