Industry Moves: June 2017

June 29, 2017:  The Salvatore Ferragamo Group has appointed Donald Kohler its new CEO of the Americas region and chief retail officer of the worldwide group. The latter is a new position. Kohler, who will be responsible for the North, South and Central America markets, will join Ferragamo on Sept. 4 and report directly to the group’s CEO, Eraldo Poletto. Kohler has spent nearly three decades in the fashion industry and most recently served as president of Burberry Americas. As reported on June 23, Gianluca Flore, the former CEO at Brioni who spent nearly a decade at Kering, is succeeding Kohler at Burberry Americas, effective July 5. Kohler is set to leave the business on July 1.

June 27, 2017: Men’s footwear company Delta Shoe Group, parent company of Sandro Moscoloni, has appointed Frank Lorenzo as its president. Lorenzo joined Delta Shoe Group in January 1999 as a line builder and has held several leadership roles — most recently as EVP in charge of sales management, e-commerce, marketing and product development.

June 27, 2017: Kohl’s has appointed Bruce Besanko CFO, reporting directly to chairman, CEO and president Kevin Mansell. Besanko will join Kohl’s on July 10. Most recently, he spent four years with grocery retail and supply chain services company Supervalu in financial leadership roles, including COO and CFO.

June 27, 2017: Under Armour Inc. announced that former Aldo CEO Patrik Frisk will become the company’s president and COO, effective July 10. He will report directly to chairman and CEO Kevin Plank. In conjunction with Frisk’s appointment, the company announced several strategic executive changes.

Paul Fipps has been named chief technology officer, with the responsibility of overseeing all aspects of engineering that support Under Armour’s web and mobile applications, as well as its information technology and real estate functions. Additionally, he will lead Under Armour’s Connected Fitness business, with chief digital officer and head of Connected Fitness Michael Lee reporting to Fipps directly. Most recently, Fipps served as the company’s chief information officer and EVP of Global Operations.

Colin Browne has been named chief supply chain officer, with the responsibility of all global operations related to product sourcing and logistics. Browne joined Under Armour in 2016 as president of global sourcing. Prior to that, he was VP and managing director of supply chain at VF Corp.

Additionally, in May, Kevin Eskridge was named UA’s chief product officer. Eskridge has oversight of the company’s category management model, as well as its product, merchandising, design and innovation functions. He has been with the company since 2009 and has served in various leadership roles, most recently as SVP of global merchandising.

June 22, 2017: Marco de Vincenzo S.R.L. has tapped Renato Munafò as its new CEO. Munafò joins designer Marco de Vincenzo’s eponymous label from LVMH, where he previously worked in the commercial division of Fendi.

June 21, 2017: Former Toms Shoes LLC executive Craig Reingold will join software industrial company Honeywell Safety and Productivity Solutions to lead its global retail business. Reingold, who will report to SPS president and CEO John Waldron, will be responsible for developing and executing strategic growth plans for the business. Reingold most recently served as GM of the Americas for Toms Shoes. Prior to that, he worked for Wolverine Worldwide/Collective Brands, where he served as global brand president of its Sperry Top-Sider brand.

June 16, 2017: Keds, a division of Wolverine World Wide Inc., has hired former Pentland Brands CEO Dave Grange as its VP of sales, North America. Prior to his current appointment, Grange spent 16 years at Pentland Brands. Prior to becoming the company’s CEO, Grange was president of Lacoste footwear in North America.

June 15, 2017: Kering-owned menswear brand Brioni has appointed Nina-Maria Nitsche as its new creative director, effective immediately. Nitsche — who spent 23 years with Maison Martin Margiela — will have creative responsibility of Brioni’s collections and image. Nitsche joined Maison Martin Margiela in 1989. For the following 23 years, she worked closely with the designer on the creative vision of the house. After the designer’s resignation in 2009, she took over the creative direction of Maison Martin Margiela.

June 14, 2017: Columbia Sportswear Co. has announced the appointment of Jim Swanson as the company’s SVP and CFO and Peter Rauch as the company’s SVP and chief transformation officer. Swanson has been with the company since 2003, serving in a variety of finance roles. Rauch will lead the company’s newly formed transformation office, which is being established as part of the ongoing business assessment launched by the company in the first quarter of 2017. He currently serves as Columbia’s VP and chief accounting officer, a role he has held since August 2016. Rauch joined the company in January 2008 as retail accounting manager. Swanson and Rauch will report to EVP and COO Tom Cusick. Both appointments will take effect July 1, 2017.

June 13, 2017: Popular rainboot maker Hunter has made several key executive appointments. Tracy Solomons has joined the company in a newly created position, customer engagement director. In her most recent post, Solomons was director of customer experience at Uniqlo. Sallie Scripter also recently joined Hunter as EVP, Americas. Scriptor spent 10-plus years at LVMH working as SVP for both retail development and RTW at Marc Jacobs International, and also worked as president of footwear boutique brands for the Jones Group. Hunter’s design director, Niall Sloan, will be leaving the brand on June 16. Sloan has been with Hunter since April 2013.

June 8, 2017: As part of a series of organization changes, Hudson’s Bay Co. has made several significant changes to its top ranks. Lord & Taylor and Hudson’s Bay president Liz Rodbell will drop one of her roles. Alison Coville, most recently SVP and GMM of HBC’s department store group, will become president of Hudson’s Bay. Rodbell will continue in her role as president of Lord & Taylor and will now be fully focused on leading that U.S. banner.

Ian Putnam, HBC’s chief corporate development officer, has taken on the added responsibility of COO for HBC’s joint ventures. Kerry Mader, EVP of store planning and operations, has taken on additional responsibility for store operations across North America and for visual merchandising. Andrew Blecher has been named chief communications officer and assumes additional responsibility for the HBC Foundations in the U.S. & Canada. Erik Caldwell assumes additional responsibility for digital operations and procurement, and has been named SVP, supply chain and digital operations.

June 7, 2017: Fleet Feet Sports has appointed Joey Pointer, its former CFO, as CEO. The company’s former president and CEO, Jeff Phillips, stepped down in March. Pointer joined Fleet Feet as a financial manager in 2004 and was promoted to CFO in 2012.

June 6, 2017: Columbia Sportswear Co. has announced several key executive changes. Tim Boyle, who has served as CEO the company since 1988, has resumed the role of president, which he previously held until 2015, in addition to his role as CEO. Effective July 1, 2017, six other members of the senior leadership team will be elevated to new roles or take on additional responsibilities.

Tom Cusick will be promoted to EVP and COO. Cusick is a 14-year company veteran and most recently served as EVP of finance and CFO since 2015. He will continue to act as CFO and treasurer until a successor is appointed. Peter Bragdon, a 15-year company veteran who has served as EVP, chief administrative officer, general counsel and secretary of the company since 2015, will assume oversight of the company’s international distributor business and expand his leadership of government affairs, external relations and corporate communications, in addition to his current responsibilities.

Franco Fogliato will be promoted to EVP, Americas GM. Fogliato joined the company in 2013 and has served as the company’s SVP and GM of EMEA region since 2016. In his new role, Fogliato will oversee the company’s wholesale and direct-to-consumer sales functions in North America. Joe Boyle will be promoted to EVP, Columbia brand president and will be responsible for leading the creation of Columbia brand apparel, footwear, accessories and equipment globally. Boyle joined the company in 2005 and has served as SVP of Columbia brand merchandising and design since 2015.

Doug Morse, who joined the company in 1995, will be promoted to SVP, Emerging Brands and APAC. In his new role, Morse will direct the brand leaders at the company’s Mountain Hardwear, prAna and Sorel brands, and will oversee the company’s businesses in Japan, China and Korea. Matthieu Schegg will be promoted to VP, EMEA GM where he will oversee the company’s wholesale and direct-to-consumer sales functions in Europe. Schegg has served as director of sales for Europe Direct since he joined the company in 2015. All six executives will report directly to CEO Tim Boyle.

June 5, 2017: Millard “Mickey” Drexler will step down as CEO of the J.Crew Group in July, passing the torch to James Brett, current president of home furnishings company West Elm. Drexler — who had spent 14 years helming the firm — will remain chairman. His departure follows that of former J.Crew president and creative director Jenna Lyons, who announced in April her departure following 26 years at the company.

June 1, 2017: Macy’s Inc. has appointed Yasir Anwar to the role of EVP and chief technology officer, effective immediately. In this new post — part of a broader restructuring of the company’s technology team to bolster mobile and digital growth — Anwar will oversee all technology functions for the firm and will “drive the alignment of Macy’s technology efforts with the company’s strategy,” Macy’s said. (Anwar joined macys.com as VP of engineering in May 2012 and prior to that was the head of engineering at Walmartlabs.) Additionally, Macy’s announced that Mike Robinson has been named EVP of product management and customer experience. In this role, Robinson will manage all aspects of product management, portfolio and user experiences for digital, store and omnichannel systems. Anwar and Robinson will report to R.B. Harrison, chief omnichannel and operations officer.

June 1, 2017: Footwear fit and closure systems maker Boa Technology Inc. has appointed Shawn Neville as its new CEO, effective immediately. Neville joins Boa following his most recent tenure as chairman and CEO of Aerosoles Group. Throughout his career, he has also served in executive roles at Reebok, Footaction USA and Keds.
