Industry Moves: November 2017

Nov. 21, 2017: Under Armour‘s SVP of footwear, Peter Ruppe, has left the company. Ryan Drew, former VP and GM of global basketball, will assume Ruppe’s role. A longtime Nike executive, Ruppe had held the position for two years.

Nov. 21, 2017: John Koryl, president of Neiman Marcus stores and online operations, is leaving the company, as of Nov. 30. With his departure, Neva Hall, EVP of Neiman Marcus stores, and Wendy Rowlandson, the SVP of Neiman Marcus online, will report directly to Karen Katz, Neiman Marcus president, director and CEO.

Nov. 20, 2017: After 12 years with the company, RG Barry‘s president and CEO, Greg Tunney, has stepped down from his post, a move that’s effective immediately. Tunney will remain working with the company as a senior adviser to the board. Bob Mullaney, former president and COO of Shoes.com (previously ShoeBuy) will take over Tunney’s role.

Nov. 20, 2017: Valentino SpA is gaining former Marc Jacobs International CEO Sebastian Suhl as the new managing director of global markets, as of January. Suhl, who is charged with supporting the Rome-based company’s ongoing expansion globally, will report to CEO Stefano Sassi. Suhl left New York-based Marc Jacobs last summer after a three-year stint, when he worked to ready the house for an initial public offering. Sources in Milan said Valentino could also be considering an IPO in the second half of next year.

Nov. 16, 2017:  Eno Polo has been named the new president of Alpargatas US, the parent company of Brazilian footwear brand Havaianas. Polo spent 10 years at Nike before joining Alpargatas in 2008 as president of the Europe, Middle East and Asia (or EMEA) region.

Nov. 15, 2017: Skechers USA Inc. has hired John Vandemore as its new CFO. The company said this expansion of the the executive team will allow David Weinberg — who had been filling both CFO and COO roles — to focus more attention on the company’s operations. Vandemore will report directly to Weinberg and assume his new position within the next few weeks. Vandemore has previously served as EVP and division CFO of Mattel Inc. and prior to that served as the CFO and treasurer of International Game Technology Plc.

Nov. 14, 2017: Wolverine World Wide Inc.-owned outdoor performance brand Merrell has appointed Strick Walker to the post of chief marketing officer and Johanna Koeberle as senior product director for active lifestyle. Walker will spearhead global brand strategy and marketing efforts for the Merrell brand and report directly to Merrell’s president, Sue Rechner. Walker previously held top marketing and communications posts at Patagonia and Converse. Koeberle recently served as global senior product manager for lifestyle at Keen Footwear. Prior to that she worked in product development roles at Sorel and Adidas.

Nov. 8, 2017: Tapestry Inc. — formerly Coach Inc. — announced the appointment of Nicola Glass as creative director of Kate Spade. She is expected to join the company early in the new calendar year and will succeed Deborah Lloyd, the brand’s current creative director who, in the wake of the Tapestry acquisition, made the decision to exit the brand in 2018. Glass will ultimately report to the brand president and CEO of Kate Spade, a role currently held by Tapestry CEO Victor Luis, in an interim capacity. Glass joins Kate Spade from Michael Kors, where she holds the role of SVP of accessories design, overseeing all creation and development of the Michael Kors Collection and Michael Michael Kors. Prior to that role, she worked at Gucci as an accessories designer. Glass holds a master’s of arts in fashion accessories from the Royal College of Art in London.

Nov. 8, 2017: LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton appointed Pietro Beccari CEO of Christian Dior Couture, succeeding Sidney Toledano, who will take over as executive chairman of LVMH Fashion Group. Toledano will replace Pierre-Yves Roussel, who held the title of chairman and CEO of LVMH Fashion Group, and who will remain with the group as a special advisor to LVMH chairman and CEO Bernard Arnault. The heads of Céline, Givenchy, Kenzo, Loewe, Marc Jacobs, Pucci, Rossi Moda and Nicholas Kirkwood will report to Toledano. Roussel will shortly take on new operational responsibilities with the LVMH executive committee, of which he has been a member for 14 years.

Nov. 6, 2017: Hudson’s Bay Co. announced the appointment of Milton Pappas to the role of chief marketing officer, effective immediately. Pappas will lead HBC’s Marketing Center of Excellence (COE) — created by HBC this year — and execute the marketing strategies of the company’s North American retail businesses. He joined HBC in September 2016 as SVP of digital marketing. He has served as interim chief marketing officer since June 2017. Pappas joined HBC from New York & Co., where he served as chief digital officer.

Nov. 2, 2017: Former Matchesfashion.com commercial director Richard Johnson is now the chief promotional officer at Neiman Marcus-owned MyTheresa.com. He will report to Mytheresa.com president Michael Kliger.

Nov. 2, 2017: Amid flagging sales, Under Armour announced that it is letting go of two senior executives — marketing chief Andrew Donkin and senior vice president and general manager Pamela Catlett. The announcement, which Under Armour sent out in a memo, is part of an overall restructuring that the company is doing to reverse the current downward spiral of the sportswear brand’s shares.

Nov. 1, 2017: Social-selling sandal company Fibi & Clo has hired Harris Mustafa as an adviser and board member. The company said Mustafa — who spent 10 years as DSW‘s chief supply officer and three years with Saks Fifth Avenue — will play an integral role in the creation of the company’s overall strategy regarding supply chain management and operations.
