Industry Moves: November 2018

Nov. 28, 2018: Nike Inc. has added Chicago businessman John Rogers to its board of directors. Rogers is the founder, chairman, CEO and chief investment officer of Ariel Investments, a leading Chicago-based investment company, and a veteran of other prestigious national boards.

Nov. 28, 2018: Asics America has announced the appointment of Sean Mannion as its VP of sales. Mannion, who assumes the role in the spring, will work from the company’s new Creation Studio in Boston. The exec comes from Under Armour, where he served as GM and senior director of sales. Other athletic footwear companies of note Mannion worked for include Nike and Saucony. The industry vet will be responsible for leading and overseeing the brand’s commerce functions stateside, and he will serve on the Asics America executive leadership team.

Nov. 27, 2018: Columbia Sportswear Co. has appointed John Soh as its VP and GM of China, effective February 2019. Before Columbia, Soh was the Asia Pacific region senior commercial director for Lego. The exec also spent 20 years in various roles at Nike. Soh will report to Columbia’s SVP of emerging brands and APAC Doug Morse.

Nov. 26, 2018: Saucony has named Don Lane as its chief marketing officer, effective immediately. He will be responsible for developing and executing the company’s global branding initiatives, such as brand positioning as well as direct-to-consumer, advertising and digital strategies. Lane will report directly to brand president Anne Cavassa. Most recently, the exec served as SVP of brand and creative at DraftKings.

Nov. 26, 2018: Ecco veteran Jordan Searle is leaving his post as managing director of the company’s Canada division, Ecco Shoes Canada Inc., to pursue a career opportunity outside the footwear industry. He held his most recent post for three and a half years. Until a new managing director is named, the company said Klaus Ryum Larsen will be joining Ecco Canada as interim head of sales and marketing, effective immediately.

Nov. 20, 2018: VF Corp. has hired Todd Dalhausser to immediately assume the post of Altra’s brand president. He will report to Steve Murray, VP of strategic products. Dalhausser joins VF from Wolverine World Wide Inc., where he served as SVP of sales for Saucony North America. He also held similar positions at Vans and Reebok. VF said Dalhausser’s appointment provides an opportunity for Brian Beckstead, Altra co-president,  to assume a new role as founder and chief marketing officer. Beckstead will report to Dalhausser. VF announced in March its plans to acquire the Altra brand, and that deal closed in June.

Nov. 19, 2018The NPD Group Inc. has announced that Lori Monaco, formerly NDP president of fashion footwear, accessories and luxury divisions, has been named president of its U.S. beauty practice. In her new role, Monaco — a 25-year market research veteran who has been with NPD since 2003 — will be responsible for overseeing its portfolio of U.S. beauty services and product offerings. As a result of Monaco’s move, Sarah Bloch, who has been with the company since 2015, will assume the role of commercial lead for fashion footwear and accessories. Bloch has spent more than 16 years in the footwear industry and serves as vice chairwoman of the Two Ten Footwear Foundation’s associate board. Liz Cutting, who most recently served as executive director of NPD’s Checkout service, will now become commercial lead in the group’s U.S. watches team.

Nov. 19, 2018: Columbia Sportswear Co. has announced several leadership promotions at the Sorel brand. Erin Sander has been promoted to VP of Sorel Global Product. Sander previously served as the brand’s global product director and senior product line manager for more than seven years. Taylor Vaugh has been promoted to VP of Sorel North American sales. Vaugh joined the brand as U.S. director of sales in 2015. Natalie Hayes has been promoted to VP of Sorel global brand marketing and North American e-commerce marketing. She joined Sorel in 2017 as global brand director.

Nov. 19, 2018: Neiman Marcus Group has tapped Katie Mullen as chief transformation officer — a newly created role. Mullen is responsible for working with CEO Geoffroy van Raemdonck on his agenda while commercializing new ideas, driving critical growth initiatives and working on corporate communication initiatives. She was previously partner and managing director at Boston Consulting Group.

Nov. 17, 2018: J.Crew has announced the departure of CEO James Brett, effective immediately. Brett joined the company a little more than a year ago in summer 2017. An office of the CEO will run the company while its board of directors works to establish a permanent management structure. The office comprises president and chief operating officer Michael Nicholson, president and chief experience officer Adam Brotman, chief administrative officer Lynda Markoe and Madewell Brand president Libby Wadle.

Nov. 14, 2018: Lanvin’s artistic director of men’s collections Lucas Ossendrijver is exiting the fashion house, WWD reported. Ossendrijver’s final collection as Lanvin’s men’s designer is the pre-collection currently being presented to buyers at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, an industry source told WWD. Lanvin has also been without a women’s designer since the March departure of Olivier Lapidus.

Nov. 13, 2018: Nike Inc. has announced that Craig Williams will become president of Jordan Brand, effective Jan. 14. Williams joins Jordan Brand from The Coca-Cola Company, where he was SVP as well as president of the McDonald’s Division Worldwide. Larry Miller, the current Jordan Brand president, will become chairman for the newly created Jordan Brand Advisory Board. Miller has served as president since 2012; he previously held the role from 1999 to 2006.

Nov. 5, 2018: Kering‘s board of directors has named Ginevra Elkann as a new independent director. She succeeds Laurence Boone, who was appointed chief economist of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. Elkann is also president of the film production and distribution companies Asmara Films and Good Films.

Nov. 5, 2018: Macy’s chief merchandising officer Jeff Kantor is set to retire. The longtime executive leaves the Cincinnati-based retail giant on April 16, following 36 years of service. He was named to the post in September 2017 and previously served as chief of stores and human resources officer. Macy’s has already begun the search for his successor.

Nov. 2, 2018: Dansko has announced the upcoming retirement of company founders Mandy Cabot and Peter Kjellerup. On Dec. 31, Cabot will retire as CEO. After her retirement, she will continue to serve as the chairperson of Dansko’s board of directors. Kjellerup will retire as EVP but will continue to serve on the company’s board. Jim Fox, Dansko’s president, will succeed Cabot as CEO and continue to serve as president, a role he’s held since January 2016. He was Dansko’s CFO since 2006 and helped transition Dansko to 100 percent employee ownership in 2012.
