Industry Moves: September 2018

Sept. 27, 2018: Red Wing Shoe Co.-owned Vasque Footwear has named Allison Gettings the new VP and GM of Red Wing Vasque. In this role, she will lead Vasque’s operations including marketing, sales and product development. George Curleigh, who served as VP and GM for Vasque and Red Wing Heritage for two years, will pivot to focus exclusively on the global growth of Red Wing Heritage. Gettings started her career at Red Wing Shoe Co. in product development and most recently served as the director of product creation for Red Wing Heritage.

Sept. 25, 2018: Under Armour Inc. has named former Tommy Hilfiger and Christian Dior executive Alessandro de Pestel chief marketing officer. Pestel most recently served as EVP of marketing, communications and consumer insights for Tommy Hilfiger Global/PVH Europe and prior to that was international communications director for Christian Dior Parfums in France. In his new role, Pestel will report to UA president and COO Patrik Frisk. UA also announced the appointment of Ann Funa as its new SVP of engineering.

Sept. 20, 2018: Michael Kors Holdings Ltd. has named Andrea Pesaresi its new president of Michael Kors Men’s, effective Oct. 15. He will report to John Idol, the company’s chairman and CEO. Pesaresi was most recently at CEO at Philippe Model. Prior to that, he was at Ermenegildo Zegna for 25 years, where his most recent role was brand director of Z Zegna and Licensing.

Sep. 18, 2018: Neiman Marcus announced a series of changes to its senior executive team, aimed at boosting its transformation efforts. Carrie Tharp, who joined the company as SVP and chief marketing officer in September 2016 has been promoted to EVP and chief digital officer. She will oversee the use of data and digital analytical tools to enhance omnichannel experiences, with an emphasis on customer engagement. Her team will include Lindy Rawlinson, SVP of customer experience and e-commerce, and a new hire, former Sephore executive Stefanie Tsen, who will join Neiman Marcus Group on Oct. 1 as SVP of omnichannel customer experiences. Adam Orvos, who started at Neiman Marcus Group in April as CFO, has been promoted to EVP, CFO and COO. In this expanded role, he will have oversight of functional areas related to the company’s transformation strategy including information technology and cyber security, supply chain and operations, and legal. As a member of his team, Tracy Preston, SVP and general counsel, will also expand her responsibility as chief compliance officer. Lastly, Melissa Lowenkron has joined Neiman Marcus from Bergdorf Goodman as general merchandise manager of accessories, including ladies shoes, handbags, designer jewelry and precious jewels. Lisa Kazor will expand her current role as GMM of all of women’s apparel.

Sep. 18, 2018: Lululemon Athletica Inc. has announced the promotion of Sun Choe to the role of chief product officer. Choe joined Lululemon in 2016 as SVP of global merchandising and has since assumed expanded responsibilities for all product functions on an interim basis. Prior to joining Lululemon, she served as chief global product merchant at Marc Jacobs and also served in senior merchandising roles at Urban Outfitters, West Elm and Madewell.

Sept. 17, 2018: Dean Rurak, Columbia Sportswear VP of U.S. apparel sales, has been appointed SVP of North America sales for the Columbia brand, effective Oct. 2. In this new role, Rurak will report directly to Franco Fogliato, EVP and Americas general manager for Columbia Sportswear Co.

Sept. 17, 2018: Valentino U.S. CEO Sandra Jovicic has left the company, WWD reported. Confirming the exit, a Valentino spokeswoman told the publication that a successor has not yet been named. Jovicic, who joined the couture house in July 2017, was previously president of Moncler U.S. in New York. In addition to consulting for Cacci & Co. Advisors, Jovicic worked at Tommy Hilfiger, Bottega Veneta, Celine, Cerruti and Prada, according to her LinkedIn profile.

Sept. 10, 2018: Jack Ma is stepping down as chairman of The Alibaba Group, the Chinese e-commerce giant he co-founded 19 years ago and helped build into a $420 billion company. He will resign from the role in 2019 at age 55 and will be succeeded by CEO Daniel Zhang. The timeline gives the leadership a year to execute the transition — Ma will remain as executive chairman until 2020, after which he will continue to be a part of the Alibaba Partnership, a group of executives with influence over the company’s board.

Sept. 10, 2018: Richemont Group has appointed Jérôme Lambert as its new CEO, effective immediately. Most recently serving as the luxury goods company’s chief operating officer, he fills a role that has remained vacant since March last year when Richard Lepeu retired from his post. Lambert has also held executive-level jobs at Richemont for 19 years, including top positions at Montblanc and Jaeger-LeCoultre.

Sept. 4, 2018: Pentland Brands Ltd.-owned sports and streetwear label Ellesse has appointed Simon Breckon as its new brand director. He will work across global strategy, activation, product and marketing plus P&L. Breckon previously spent time at PepsiCo, Bacardi and Gillette. Breckon will join Pentland’s Footwear Division on Sept. 10.

Sept. 3, 2018: Jonathan Anderson has announced that Jenny GalimbertiLouis Vuitton‘s communications and events director, has been named its new CEO. (LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton took a 46 percent stake in his J.W. Anderson brand in 2013.) Galimberti is the latest in a string of female leaders appointed to the helm of LVMH fashion houses in the last two years, including Sylvie Colin for Kenzo, Séverine Merle for Céline and Pascale Lepoivre for Loewe. The CEO role at London-based J.W. Anderson has been vacant since the end of last year, when Simon Whitehouse left his post after three years, citing personal reasons. Seperately, Louis Vuitton has named Stefano Cantino, a former Prada executive, Galimberti’s successor.
