Industry Moves: August 2018

Aug. 29, 2018: Nordstrom Inc. has announced board of directors member Brad Smith will take on the additional role of chairman of the board, effective Nov. 1. Smith joined the board in 2013 and recently announced his transition at the end of 2018 from CEO and chairman to executive chairman of Intuit Inc. Before joining Intuit, Smith served in sales, marketing and management roles with ADP, PepsiCo, Seven-Up and Advo Inc. He is also a former director of Yahoo! Inc.

Aug. 29, 2018: Nina Ricci has appointed Dutch designer duo Rushemy Botter and Lisi Herrebrugh as its new creative directors, effective immediately. The two will oversee the house’s women’s ready-to-wear business, with their first collection to debut in pre-fall ’19. Botter and Herrebrugh won the Première Vision Grand Prize at the Hyères International Festival of Fashion and Photography in April for their menswear collection.

Aug. 28, 2018: Merrell announced the appointment of Adam Craig to the position of VP of sales, U.S. Prior to joining the company, Craig was a 20-year veteran of Columbia; his last title was director of U.S. sales for Columbia Footwear, a position he held since 2013. He is also a board member of Big City Mountaineers, a non-profit dedicated change the lives of under-served youth through wilderness mentoring expeditions. Craig will report directly to president of Merrell, Sue Rechner.

Aug. 28, 2018: Lanvin has appointed Jean-Philippe Hecquet CEO, effective immediately. Most recently holding the top post at French brand Sandro, Hecquet spent 14 years at Louis Vuitton, where he served multiple roles, including VP of operations in North America and GM of Louis Vuitton Canada.

Aug. 24, 2018: Pentland announced the appointment of Marc Hare as the new product director of the Lacoste Footwear Joint Venture, effective Sept. 10. Hare joins the business after having run his own streetwear-inspired sneaker brand, Mr.Hare, since 2008. Hare will be leading the new Mainline and Future Concepts product teams, and he will be working with Lacoste JV CEO, Gianni Georgiades to support Lacoste’s vision for the future of the brand.

Aug. 23, 2018: Shoe Carnival Inc. announced the appointment of Mark Worden to the newly created role of EVP and chief strategy and marketing officer, effective Sept. 10, 2018. Worden has spent more than 20 years in various management roles at SC Johnson Co. and Kimberly-Clark Corp. Prior to joining Shoe Carnival, he led the Northern European region for SC Johnson and was responsible for revenue and share growth objectives across six countries.

Aug. 22, 2018: California-based sandals maker Flojos has appointed Jeff Booth as director of sales. Booth, a former top five surfer on the World Tour, has spent time at several action sports and California-lifestyle brands including Sanuk, Billabong, Quiksilver and Oakley.

Aug. 22, 2018: Comfort and performance insoles manufacturer OrthoLite has hired Marty Greenwald as global sales director. The newly created position is expected to expand OrthoLite’s reach geographically while providing additional support to brand partners as well as the company’s sales division in the United States, Asia, Europe and South America. Greenwald has spent the past 23 years working in the footwear component division of MacNeill Engineering.

Aug. 20, 2018: Authentic Brands Group has appointed Daniel Dienst as its executive vice chairman and chief strategy officer. Dienst has served as chairman and CEO of four public companies during his career including, most recently, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia Inc. He also currently serves as a director of Knoll Inc. In his new role, Dienst is charged with helping to shape ABG’s long-term strategy, leading the company’s global business development and driving the corporate focus on media, digital strategy and content monetization, among other duties. ABG is owner of and licensor for a range of lifestyle, celebrity and entertainment brands, including Nine West, Frye, Juicy Couture, Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe.

Aug. 16, 2018: Reebok has announced the appointment of Kelly Hibler as GM of the Reebok Classics business unit. He was most recently VP of Nike Global Basketball Footwear and has been at the brand for 28 years in various leadership roles. In his new role, Hibler will lead the overall strategy for Reebok’s Classics business unit, including product creation, marketing, merchandising and channel segmentation. He will report to Reebok president Matt O’Toole. (After a period of softness, Reebok has been clawing its way back to profitability — thanks in no small part to a resurgence in its Classics business.)

Aug. 7, 2018: Crocs announced that CFO Carrie Teffner will step down from the company on April 1 after a transition period. Anne Mehlman will assume the role this month. She joins the team from Zappos.com, where she was CFO. Mehlman worked at Crocs for five years as VP of corporate finance.

Aug. 6, 2018: Nordstrom Inc. has hired Edmond Mesrobian as its chief technology officer. In this role, Mesrobian is charged with bolstering the department store’s strategy for leveraging digital and technology capabilities while expanding customer reach and engagement. He joins Nordstrom from grocery retailer Tesco, where he also served as CTO.

Aug. 6, 2018: Columbia Sportswear has hired Chris Adamek, who has been consulting with the firm since January, as its new VP and chief of staff for the Columbia brand. Most recently, Adamek served as VP for the Pacific Region at consulting agency North Highland.

Aug. 2, 2018: First Heritage Brands-owned Sonia Rykiel has named Perry Oosting as its new CEO, as first reported by WWD. Oosting will also continue in his role as CEO of French footwear brand Robert Clergerie, also owned by First Heritage Brands, the holding company headed by Jean-Marc Loubier. Oosting joined Robert Clergerie in April 2017 and has previously held management posts at Bulgari, Gucci and Prada. He succeeds Eric Langon, who had served as Sonia Rykiel’s chief since 2012.
