Industry Moves: February 2018

Feb. 28, 2018: Southern California-based lifestyle and skate brand DC Shoes Inc. has appointed Michael Minter as global head of marketing. Minter most recently served as VP of creative at Keen, where he led a redesign of the brand’s digital platform and launched multiple campaigns. Prior to that, he spent time at Billabong and Sanuk. Minter will be based in the company’s global Huntington Beach headquarters and report to global GM Mike Jensen.

Feb. 27, 2018: Marie Gulin-Merle has been named chief marketing officer of Calvin Klein Inc. She replaces Melisa Goldie who exited the role in November 2016. Gulin-Merle has been chief marketing officer at L’Oreal USA for the past four years.

Feb. 27, 2018: Salvatore Ferragamo SpA CEO Eraldo Poletto is leaving the Florence, Italy-based company, effective March 8 and following the approval of 2017 financial statements. Poletto had joined the company from Furla in 2016.

Feb. 22, 2018: Reebok announced today that longtime company executive Todd Krinsky has been appointed to the position of GM of Reebok Performance, a new business unit for the label. In the role, Krinsky will report to brand president Matt O’Toole. Krinsky, a 25-year Reebok veteran, has held several leading positions with the brand including its Basketball, Cleated, and Training businesses, as well as its Sports and Entertainment Marketing and RBK divisions. He was most recently the GM of Reebok Classic.

Feb. 21, 2018: Recovery footwear maker Oofos has named Steve Gallo as its new president. Gallo most recently served as GM of the sports license division at Adidas Group, where he spent three years. Prior to that role, he served as SVP of sales for Adidas North America and senior product marketing director at Reebok.

Feb. 20, 2018: Gucci is putting in place a new organizational structure, effective March 1. The structure covers four new areas: Merchandising & Global Markets, led by Jacopo Venturini; Indirect Channels, Outlet and Travel Retail, headed by Piero Braga; Brand & Customer Engagement, under the responsibility of Robert Triefus; Digital Business & Innovation, led by Nicolas Oudinot. The remaining reporting lines to Gucci’s president and CEO Marco Bizzarri will remain unchanged. Concurrently, Gucci veteran EVP and chief consumer officer Micaela Le Divelec and the company are parting ways.

Feb. 20, 2018: LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton has selected longtime Dior executive Serge Brunschwig to become Fendi’s chairman and CEO. (Both Fendi and Dior are owned by luxury conglomerate LVMH.) Brunschwig succeeds Pietro Beccari, who earlier this month became chairman and CEO of Christian Dior Couture. Brunschwig joins the Rome-based luxury company from Dior Homme, where he has held the title of chairman and CEO since September 2015. He joined Christian Dior Couture in 2008 as COO. Before that, Brunschwig in 2006 was appointed chairman and CEO of Céline, also part of LVMH.

Feb. 13, 2018: Designer Jason Wu is parting ways with Hugo Boss after five years as the artistic director for Boss Womenswear. The Gallery Collection presentation on Feb. 13 at in New York served as Wu’s finale for the brand.

Feb. 12, 2018: Judgie Graham has joined Max Mara USA as VP of marketing and communications, effective immediately. Graham was previously VP of global communications at Oscar de la Renta. Prior to this post, she worked on the public relations teams at Christian Dior Couture and Dolce & Gabbana. Graham succeeds Kristine Westerby, who left Max Mara to join Louis Vuitton Americas as SVP of communications, effective Jan. 3.

Feb. 9, 2018: After 37 years, Carolina Herrera will step down on Feb. 13 — the day of her New York Fashion Week showing — from designing for her namesake label. The New York Times reports that Herrera will be moving into a new role: global brand ambassador (a title she gave herself), where she will be present at store events worldwide and use her status to further the company.

Feb. 9, 2018: Jimmy Choo has appointed editor, stylist and Net-a-Porter global editorial fashion director Gabriele Hackworthy as its SVP of global brand and marketing communications, a new role. Hackworthy will work on developing the brand’s editorial voice and producing fashion content aimed at supporting Choo’s expansion plans, new product initiatives and seasonal collections across different communication touch points. Hackworthy has previously held fashion director positions at titles such as Harper’s Bazaar U.K. and the Australian, Japanese and Chinese editions of Vogue.

Feb. 8, 2018: Canada Goose Holdings Inc. has hired Jimmy Choo CFO and EVP of business operations Jonathan Sinclair as its new CFO and EVP, succeeding John Black. He is expected to join the company toward the middle of the year. Black informed the company of his intention to retire and will continue as CFO until Sinclair starts his post. Black will also remain in a senior role until the end of year to ensure a smooth transition.

Feb. 8, 2018: Surf9 LLC, a licensee of watersports and lifestyle brand Body Glove International, has hired Brad Gruber as president of its footwear division. The addition of Gruber coincides with the launch of the Body Glove Footwear Lifestyle Collection, a line of casual shoes for men and women. Gruber has previously spent time at Rider Sandals.

Feb. 8, 2018: Sequential Brands Group Inc.  has signed a multiyear partnership with NBA legend Kevin Garnett as the creative director and global ambassador for its basketball label AND1. The brand will launch a capsule collection co-designed by Garnett and an accompanying campaign featuring footwear, apparel, and accessories. This year marks AND1’s 25th anniversary, and Garnett was one of the its original ambassadors.

Feb. 7, 2018: Net-a-Porter has appointed Nayla Touma as the buying director for shoes, handbags and accessories. In her role, she will report to Elizabeth von der Goltz, Net-a-Porter’s global buying director. Touma will be joining the team at the end of the month and will relocate to the brand’s London headquarter in April. Touma joins the e-tailer after a five-year stint at Bergdorf Goodman, where she started as a buyer for advanced contemporary and designer shoes and rose to division merchandise manager for footwear.

Feb. 6, 2018: Sonia Rykiel has appointed Julien Soyez as chief communication and marketing officer, effective immediately. He will be in charge of brand image, public relations strategy, digital activities, advertising and customer relationship management. Soyez joins the French fashion house from Marc Jacobs, where he was communications director for Europe and the Middle East. He previously held positions at Louis Vuitton.

Feb. 6, 2018: Vans added Erwin Federizo to its team as its Global Executive Creative Director, and will run the brand’s creative, environmental design and digital content divisions. Prior to Vans, Federizo worked on the Jordan Brand “RE2PECT” campaign for New York Yankees great Derek Jeter. Joyce Ha, the current VP of product and e-commerce development for Vans Asia Pacific, will move to California in April to oversee global men’s apparel and accessories merchandising, as well as Vans Active merchandising and design. Dabney Lee will take over Ha’s former VP of product for Asia Pacific role in Hong Kong, and will also assume the position of senior director of global footwear merchandising for Vans Classics.

Feb. 5, 2018: The Valentino Group has hired Isabelle Harvie-Watt to the new post of chief marketing officer, overseeing all marketing and communications for the fashion house, effective April 16. She will report directly to CEO Stefano Sassi. Most recently, Harvie-Watt was a managing partner and CEO of the Spring Group — Spring Studios and Spring Place — in Milan, tasked with expanding and managing the group’s footprint in Italy.

Feb. 5, 2018: HBC has appointed Helena Foulkes as CEO, effective Feb. 19, 2018. Foulkes joins HBC from CVS Health, where she served as EVP of CVS Health and president of CVS Pharmacy. Foulkes will be responsible for HBC’s global strategy and operations for all banners, overseeing more than 66,000 associates worldwide across a portfolio of more than 480 stores, related e-commerce platforms, supply chain, logistics and technology. Upon joining HBC, she will also be appointed to the board of directors. Richard Baker, who has been acting interim CEO, will continue as governor and executive chairman of HBC. Former HBC chief Jerry Storch exited amid a HBC management shakeup in November 2017.

Feb. 5, 2018: Keri Jones, EVP and Chief Merchant at Dick’s Sporting Goods Inc., has resigned from her post, effective Feb. 9, 2018, in order to accept the CEO position at specialty women’s retailer Christopher & Banks. At this time, the company said it will not be replacing Ms. Jones as Chief Merchant. Core merchandising functions will report directly to the company’s chairman and CEO, Edward Stack.
