Industry Moves: July 2018

July 31, 2018: Salvatore Ferragamo SpA has appointed Micaela Le Divelec Lemmi CEO. President and chairman Ferruccio Ferragamo in March had become interim CEO following the exit of Eraldo Poletto, who spent less than two years in the role.

July 30, 2018: Under Armour SVP of global brand management Adrienne Lofton has left the brand to pursue another opportunity, the company confirmed. As part of the company’s succession planning, it said Attica Jaques will now lead its global brand management team. Attica joined Under Armour in 2016 as the brand leader for the women’s category and most recently was leading Under Armour’s marketing regional and channel strategy. Lofton had spent a total of nine years at Under Armour — starting at the company in 2008 but exiting for a two-year stint as as SVP and chief marketing officer Levi Strauss & Co from 2013 to 2014.

July 25, 2018: Harvey Nichols has appointed Laura Larbalestier group fashion buying director, effective Aug. 13. She will be responsible for womenswear, menswear and accessories buying across the business. Larbalestier, who will report to co-COO Daniela Rinaldi, previously held senior positions in buying and merchandising at Browns and Selfridges. She most recently served as buying director at Boutique 1.

July 24, 2018: Lululemon Athletica Inc. has appointed Calvin McDonald to serve as its new CEO, effective Aug. 20. For the past five years, McDonald was president and CEO of the Americas for Sephora. In conjunction with his new appointment, McDonald will become a member of the athletic apparel maker’s board of directors. Former CEO Laurent Potdevin resigned in February after his behavior allegedly fell short of company standards.

July 23, 2018: JCPenney’s EVP and chief customer officer, Joseph McFarland, has exited his role at the retail chain. He will join his former boss, previous CEO Marvin Ellison, at home improvement store Lowe’s. McFarland will take his new post as EVP of stores on Aug. 15 and will report directly to Ellison.

July 19, 2018: VF Corp.-owned The North Face has appointed Kelly Cortina as VP of global product and Darren Cookson as global VP of merchandising, effective immediately. Cortina joins The North Face after 13 years at Under Armour in a variety of roles, including product creation, direct-to-consumer and global merchandising. Cookson spent the past three years as VP of Product & Merchandising EMEA for the The North Face, where he was responsible for the merchandising, management, design and development of product for Europe. Prior to that, he was at Timberland for seven years.

July 16, 2018: Tapestry has confirmed that former Aquatalia creative director Edmundo Castillo is working with the Stuart Weitzman brand as head of product design. He assumed the role on May 31 — although the company did not make a formal announcement at the time. Former Stuart Weitzman creative director Giovanni Morelli resigned from his post in May after he was accused of inappropriate behavior.

July 16, 2018: Pentland Brands Ltd. has announced the appointment of three directors to head up its fashion footwear — comprising Ted Baker and Karen Millen — Team Sports and Berghaus brands. Nicola Mathews has been named brand director of fashion and will head up both the Karen Millen and Ted Baker footwear businesses. She was previously commercial director at Karen Millen and has worked across commercial and merchandising roles at LK Bennett, Hobbs, Lola Rose and Gap. Charlotte Cox has been appointed director of the Team Sports brands, Canterbury and Mitre. Cox most recently served as VP, strategic customers, at Pentland Brands. Kevin McFadyen has been appointed brand director of the outdoor brand, Berghaus. McFadyen previously worked for telecommunications services provider O2. He will join Pentland in September. (Pentland in June announced that it will become the footwear licensee for Karen Millen.)

July 13, 2018: Emily Culp, chief marketing officer at Wolverine World Wide Inc.-owned brand Keds, has left to pursue a new opportunity. The company said it is actively conducting a search to fill the role, which she had held since 2015.

July 12, 2016: Wolverine World Wide Inc. announced the appointment of Janice Tennant as chief marketing officer for Cat Footwear, effective immediately. Tennant most recently served as director of marketing at Kimberly-Clark Corp. Prior to that, she spent 10 years at PepsiCo, Inc. where she held a variety of senior marketing roles.

July 2, 2018: Walmart has named Barbara Messing its new SVP and chief marketing officer. She will lead marketing for Walmart U.S. and Walmart eCommerce U.S. Messing, who will join the firm in mid-August, comes to the company after seven years at TripAdvisor. She replaces Tony Rogers, who will become chief member office for Walmart’s Sam’s Club. Messing will be based in Bentonville, Ark., where the company is headquartered.

July 2, 2018: Walmart has appointed Janey Whiteside, former EVP and GM of Global Premium Products & Benefits at American Express, to the newly created role of EVP and chief customer officer, focused on attracting shoppers and offering better customer service. Whiteside, who will be responsible for both Walmart U.S. and Walmart eCommerce U.S., will join the retailer on Aug. 1. She spent 20 years with American Express prior to accepting her new post.

July 2, 2018: Under Armour Inc. has announced several new regional appointments in addition to the expansion of its Hong Kong office, which will become its Asia-Pacific headquarters. Jason Archer has been named managing director, Asia Pacific; Manuel Ovalle will become managing director, Latin America; and Massimo Baratto is now managing director, Europe, Middle East and Africa. Archer has been with Under Armour for six years — most recently serving as VP and managing director, with primary oversight of the company’s Latin American business. Prior to Under Armour, he spent 11 years with Adidas in Latin AmericaErick Haskell, who joined Under Armour in 2015 as managing director, greater China, plans to leave the company this month to pursue a new opportunity. Ovalle joined Under Armour in 2013 and has worked on the brand’s business operations in the Southern Cone of Latin America. Baratto joined UA in May. Archer, Ovalle and Baratto will report directly to Under Armour president and COO Patrik Frisk.
