Graffiti or Graf-Feet-I? Illustrated Shoes Are Top Street-Style Trend at London Fashion Week Men’s Spring ’19

The London Fashion Week Men’s spring ’19 edition wraps today after an event-filled weekend. David and Victoria Beckham appeared at Kent and Curwen (the former is a brand partner), Charles Jeffrey Loverboy accessorized his looks with extraterrestrial headgear, and Virgil Abloh sat front-row at A-Cold-Wall as a gang of cement-covered models opened the show. All the while, the British capital’s street-style trends point to one that can best be dubbed “graf-feet-i”: shoes featuring graffiti and word prints, illustrations and more.

Dapper gentlemen, equally dressed in suits as they were in casualwear, sported a variety of graffiti-printed styles across several brands. One attendee wore the most minimal style of the bunch by way of white slip-ons from London-based designer Matthew Miller. The shoes touted a double “M” logo on the outsole in black, its dripping design lending a freshly spray-painted aesthetic.

In the low-top category, Vetements and Vans were both present. Vetements’ sneakers were a more direct takedown of graffiti walls and subways with verbiage such as “Love Matters” and “Product Placement” plastered around them. Orange, turquoise, yellow and royal blue markings were among the shoe’s colors.

Similarly, one guest’s pair of Vans featured allover drawings, though only in black to contrast against the white canvas sneakers. Abstract faces were illustrated on the shoe’s upper to customize the style, which featured blue laces and Vans branding.

Moschino’s Black Graffiti sneakers with printed icons were also a clear nod to the “graf-feet-i” trend. The shoes highlight phrases like “Express Shipping” and “Delivery Requires Recipient Signature,” which pop against their black neoprene fabrication.
