Those who don’t want do believe it can’t be in denial any longer. LeBron James is officially a Los Angeles Laker. He signed his massive four-year, $154 million contract with the team last week, but the final nail in the coffin for Cleveland Cavaliers fans was on Sunday night, when The King appeared courtside at a Lakers summer league game wearing Lakers shorts with matching purple signature sneakers.
The Lakers team Instagram account proudly posted footage of their new addition to the team arriving.
James wasted no time showing team spirit for his new squad, as he made his first public appearance as a Laker in style by wearing the Just Don x Mitchell & Ness Lakers shorts with the striking purple suede edition of his first signature shoe, the Nike Air Zoom Generation.
It was actually his second appearance in the purple sneakers; he debuted them before Game 3 of the NBA Finals in June. The one-of-one pair is constructed from fireproof suede, initially used for Nascar racer Denny Hamlin’s Jordan Brand racing boots.

The sneaker world immediately took note of the purple Air Zoom Generations the first time James wore them, but after joining the Lakers, the shoes are even more buzzworthy. Many collectors, especially Lakers fans, are now hoping more than ever that the colorway will have a retail release. If they are produced for the public, they likely won’t be constructed from the fireproof suede, but we doubt fans will mind.
