Cardi B Is FN’s Style Influencer of the Year

The 2020 FN Achievement Awards just got a little hotter. Cardi B has been selected to receive the Style Influencer of the Year award.

Since Cardi B rapped about red bottoms and those Balenciaga shoes, the ones that look like socks, she  has quickly built a growing empire that is influencing just about everything in pop culture — from music, fashion and style to social media, politics and even public service (serving as the spokesperson for the 2020 Census).

Next, Cardi B embarks on an even bigger role in the footwear and fashion industries with her Reebok collection launching next month.

And during a year that brought many challenges, she still found time to serve countless looks, too, including that all-leopard Mugler ensemble from the “WAP” music video, and star in Balenciaga’s fall ad campaign.

“I’ve always been into fashion. Back then, I couldn’t afford what I wanted, now I can. It’s easier and I have more connections with brands,” she told FN. “I could wear the most uncomfortable shoe and I’m just going to take it and love it because it’s fashion, it’s beauty, it’s amazing, it’s different. I get bored, so that’s when me and my stylist [Kollin Carter], we get creative and come up with something new and amazing.”

Cardi will receive the honor during the first virtual FNAAs, which will air online Dec. 8. Previous winners of the Style Influencer award have included J Balvin, Christie Brinkley, Hailey Baldwin, Alexa Chung and Chiara Ferragni.

For 34 years, the annual FN Achievement Awards — often called the “Shoe Oscars” — have celebrated the style stars, best brand stories, ardent philanthropists, emerging talents and industry veterans. This year’s virtual event is sponsored by The Style Room Powered by Zappos, and FDRA.

“It goes without saying that 2020 was a year that brought epic and intimidating challenges,” said Michael Atmore, FN’s editorial director and chief brand officer of Fairchild Media. “While there were points along the way that seemed impossible to celebrate, our winners list proves the power of resilience and the ability to triumph over incredible odds. Diverse, inclusive and forward-thinking each winner is a powerful lesson in leadership.”

Other FNAA 2020 winners include: Salehe Bembury as Designer of the Year, Aurora James as Person of the Year, Amina Muaddi for Fenty as Collaborator of the Year, and more.
