Janelle Monae brought her fashion A-game to the Oscars red carpet tonight in Los Angeles in a beautiful metallic dress covered with more than 168,000 Swarovski crystals.
The singer-actress arrived in a diamond-studded gown by Ralph Lauren featuring a fitted long-sleeve top and a large cutout in the back. The fit-and-flare bottom half of fell to the floor in an A-line. A hood gave the dress unique flair. The 34-year-old wore a diamond choker and diamond-covered statement rings. Monae kept up the sparkle on her nails, which were also adorned with diamonds.
Oscars night involved more than just a red carpet appearance for Monae, who also performed onstage at the show. For the occasion, the star wore black-and-white boots from George Esquivel, who has been designing shoes for celebrities since the ’90s and founded his namesake label in 2001. In recent years, his designs have appeared on the feet of boldface personalities, from Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to Martha Hunt and Emily Ratajkowski.

Taking to Instagram, the designer provided a closer look at the shoes, including an image of them in as they were being constructed.
“Last night was such a special night #oscars. Seeing @janellemonae perform in our boots was one for the books. We first met in 2009; she was my muse for my @cfda @voguemagazine fashion fund spread! Through the years, she has blessed me with opportunities to be a part of her videos, #grammys performance and world tours. It’s truly been a joy watching her share her talents with the world,” he said in the post.
