Reebok Updates Its Classic Leather Sneaker Once Again With Maison Margiela’s Iconic Split-Toe Design

Reebok and Maison Margiela are launching another rendition of their split-toe sneaker.

On February 26, you’ll be able to get your hands on two smooth leather styles of Reebook’s 1983 Classic Leather sneaker featuring Maison Margiela‘s controversial, yet stylish Tabi design. Available in black or white, the shoe will retail for $300 at select Maison Margiela stores as well as online via Maisonmargeila.com and Reebok.com

The Tabi design, which was created in 1988, continues to make a statement in fashion, most recently with the French luxury brand’s collab with Reebok. Stars such as Kim Kardashian West and “Euphoria” actress, Hunter Schafer are among those who have flaunted the collaborative shoe styles for the series.

For Maison Margiela and Reebok’s third and latest release, the sneaker is a much subtler take on their past collabs with each other. The Classic Leather style was rebuilt to accommodate the Tabi split-toe style and made with a Nappa leather upper and an EVA sole.

All styles, which were evolved with help from Maison Margiela’s creative director, John Galliano, continue to mix high fashion with functionality.

The duo’s first collab debuted on the runway in Paris during Couture Week in January 2020 in the form of split-toe Instapump Fury sneakers that featured a heel. In September, the Maison Margiela x Reebok Tabi Instapump Fury was released. It was the first time Reebok released a heeled version of the Instapump Fury silhouette.

According to the brands, the first collab played on the idea of analyzing “the conversation between humanity and technology in the digital age.” Maison Margiela proclaimed the look the “statement shoe for the age of the cyber-industrial revolution.”

Maison Margiela and Reebok’s second collaboration released in January 2021 and featured a painted white coating on a black leather upper of the athletic brand’s Classic sneaker. The colorway was a signature bianchetto technique from the French house, which purposely chips with wear.

The second version retailed for $350 and has since sold out.
