Lord & Taylor Talks Empowering Women With ‘Look Good Feel Better’ Charity Day

While a day of shopping ranks high on the list of everyone’s favorite stress-busters, Lord & Taylor is hoping to give a new meaning to retail therapy.

The Hudson Bay Co.-owned department-store chain announced last week that it will host a “new year, new you”-themed charity day on Jan. 16 to benefit the Look Good Feel Better charitable program.

The 27-year-old Look Good Feel Better program seeks to to help individuals with cancer deal with the appearance-related side effects of treatment to improve their self-esteem and help them better manage their treatment and recovery.

On Saturday, all Lord & Taylor stores will participate in the charity day by offering special discounts, local entertainment and refreshments.

With the purchase of a $5 ticket, customers will receive two 30 percent-off single-item coupons, as well as one 20-percent-off storewide savings pass.

Here, Michael Crotty, chief marketing officer and EVP at Hudson’s Bay and Lord & Taylor, shares why the initiative is important and what other charity events the company has planned for 2016.

Why is partnering with charitable programs like Look Good Feel Better an important initiative for Lord & Taylor?

MC: At Lord & Taylor, we are proud when we can support and align with important programs like Look Good Feel Better. Their mission of empowering women to feel beautiful inside and out is synergistic with our aim for all women to always be able to find something at Lord & Taylor to help them look and feel their best.

How do you hope this event will benefit indivduals and their loved ones who have been affected by cancer?

MC: All Charity Day ticket sales and 1 percent of online proceeds, from Jan. 16, will directly benefit Look Good Feel Better to help fund their programs in hospitals and cancer treatment centers.

Do you have more events like this one in the pipeline?

MC: We had two very successful all-door Charity Days in 2015, and we have more planned for 2016. During our recent holiday window unveiling, we announced a 2016 charitable partner for our New York store — Habitat for Humanity NYC. Together with Habitat NYC, over the course of this year, Lord & Taylor will build a house for a family in need in Queens and present them the keys to the house at our next holiday window unveiling. It will be wonderful moment to share with Habitat NYC, especially during the holiday season.
