Morjas to Supply Formal Footwear for Team GB at 2024 Olympic Games

Morjas is getting in on the action for this summer’s Olympic Games.

According to the Swedish footwear company, it has been selected to supply formal footwear for Team GB (Great Britain) at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The company added that the selected models to be featured are the derby for men and the penny loafer for women – both made in Morjas’ signature medium brown suede and finished on a thin rubber sole.

”We are truly honored to be part of Team GB’s participation in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games,” Henrik Berg, founder of Morjas, said in a statement. “Together with Alexander Manufacturing, we share the same dedication and passion for quality, craftsmanship, and design ethos—principles that we believe match perfectly with Team GB’s.”

Berg added that Team GB will wear the company’s shoes during all occasions that require formal attire, spanning from receptions with the King of England and/or during ceremonies where formal attire is the dress code.

As an official supplier of Team GB, Morjas is joined by Alexander Manufacturing, which is contributing the nation’s bespoke men’s and women’s formal clothing for the up to 350 athletes from Great Britain.

Nadia Alexander, founder of Alexander Manufacturing, expressed her enthusiasm about the upcoming Games. It’s a real honor to dress Team GB,” Alexander said. “We’re creating more than just formal wear; we like to think that we are weaving the spirit of Great Britain into every Team GB garment.”

So why choose a non-UK-based brand to supply the team’s formal shoes? Key stakeholders at Team GB and Alexander Manufacturing were big fans of the company and were key in getting the Swedish brand involved in the project, according to the company.

This news adds to the already busy year for the growing footwear brand. Earlier this month, Morjas hosted its first New York City pop-up shop in what Berg told FN was a “big moment” for the company.

The pop-up marked the shoe brand’s latest retail endeavor after opening its first physical store in its hometown of Stockholm, Sweden last summer. The 990-sq.-ft. flagship dubbed “Casa Morjas,” has a home-like atmosphere and serves as the physical reflection of the brand’s Spanish and Swedish roots.

What’s more, Morjas also introduced a new boat shoe, espadrille, driving shoe, deck shoe and sneaker this spring – adding to its offering of best-selling penny and Belgian loafers.

In an interview with FN in April, Berg spoke about the brand’s growth strategy since it started in 2017. “Our philosophy is doing a few things well,” he said. “We rather approach things with patience in order to craft things just right.”
