Skechers Extends Contract With Pro Golfer Matt Kuchar

Skechers plans to drive its golf business a bit farther this season.

To do that, the company today said it renewed its contract with professional player Matt Kuchar.

The 37-year-old American, who has won seven PGA Tour titles since turning pro in 2000, helped Skechers launch its Go Golf Pro line in 2015 with a series of comedic videos.

Kuchar is expected to help the Manhattan Beach, Calif.-based firm develop product for its golf line.

Skechers is the latest company to focus on golf this week. On Monday, Nike rolled out a series of videos starring top players such as Rory McIlroy who show the daily grind of becoming a champion.

Kuchar will give spectators at the 2016 Masters Tournament a sneak peek at Skechers’ 2017 Go Golf Pro 2 line this week. The style, according to the company, uses new midsole foam cushioning and a better dual density outsole with integrated grip technology that offers stability to a golfer’s swing.

The shoes will be released later this year.

“Working with Skechers Performance has been extremely rewarding,” Kuchar said in a statement. “Their team has been a creative force and is on the cutting edge of design, bringing me the best footwear possible and keeping me at the top of my game. The shoes I wear need to be stable and secure on the green, and Skechers Performance has that perfect balance, giving me the highest functionality while remaining the most comfortable golf shoes I’ve ever worn.”
