‘Mean Girls’ Returns in Walmart’s Black Friday Commercial With Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried, Lacey Chabert & More Stars

Walmart is taking a “fetch” approach to Black Friday this year, thanks to “Mean Girls.”

The retailer has reunited the cast of the hit 2000’s comedy for its 2023 Black Friday commercial — including Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried and Lacey Chabert, reprising their roles as Cady Heron, Karen Smith and Gretchen Weiners. The video, which can be seen on YouTube, now finds the titular “Plastics” as adults who are shopping for Black Friday deals at Walmart — all narrated by Lohan herself, just like in the original 2004 film.

Within the humorous clip, the “Plastics” have moved on from high school; Gretchen has a teenage daughter she teaches TikTok dances to, while Karen is now a weather reporter. Meanwhile, Cady is North Shore High’s guidance counselor — where she’s still “getting schooled” by today’s teens when it comes to popular slang. Rounding out the cast are characters Damian (Daniel Franzese) and Kevin (Rajiv Surendra), as well as a gym teacher played by Missy Elliott — whose song “Pass That Dutch” was prominently featured in the original film.

Walmart‘s commercial features a variety of “Mean Girls” references that eagle-eyed viewers are sure to catch, including Wednesdays, wearing pink, strudels and even a 2023 version of the movie’s winter talent show. The ad — which earned fanfare when it simultaneously dropped on Instagram — concludes with news that Walmart is beginning its annual Black Friday deals on Wednesday, Nov. 8.

Walmart is the latest retailer to begin its Black Friday deals early this year; Macy’s has also shared that it will hold select sales between Nov. 10 and Nov. 18. The shopping holiday, which takes place on the Friday after Thanksgiving, features discounts and price reductions on various merchandise at a range of retailers, individual brands and more.

In other Walmart news, the retailer has also announced the reopening of 117 of its renovated stores in the U.S. on Friday, as previously reported in FN. Currently, over 700 additional locations are set to be renovated before the end of the year.
