ATP Atelier to Launch New York Pop-Up & Art Exhibition Celebrating the ‘Urban Sandal’

ATP Atelier is looking to expand further into the U.S. market. To do that, the Sweden-based brand is bringing its classic sandals to New York this week via an art pop-up dubbed The Urban Sandal.

The shopping experience kicks off Thursday, June 6, and will run through Sunday, June 9. It’s located at 247 Elizabeth Street and will be open to the public from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The unique event will include having pieces on display that celebrate sandals in urban environments and the elevated city dwellers that wear them. The art pieces displayed in the exhibition were created and executed by the ATP Atelier design team. Each piece features all core sandals, including the hero sandal styles: Rosa, Centola, Alassio and Furlo.

Additionally, there will also be a museum gift shop that will allow visitors to purchase an exclusive selection of ATP Atelier styles.

This marks the first pop-up in New York, according to Maj-La Pizzelli, co-founder and creative director. ATP Atelier, however, has grown substantially in the United States since its debut on Net-A-Porter in 2014. Bergdorf Goodman, Nordstrom and Fred Segal have been added to the portfolio in recent years, with wholesale making up 60% at ATP Atelier’s sales.

While the U.S. currently stands as the second-largest for the brand, Pizzelli said the pop-up will bring the brand closer to the community in New York.

“When when we started the brand, we saw a huge gap in the market for an urban sandal,” she said, noting other product categories such as handbags and boots. “The design we do is a very minimalist, Scandinavian design that is super important. But also it very important that everything is made in Italy. [The product] is all about simplicity, but still high quality.”

ATP Atelier recently opened a brick-and-mortar store in Sweden’s central Stockholm. With the New York pop-up, Pizzelli added: “We want to test the market and take it step by step.”
