There was a time — it seems like just a minute ago — when all things ’90s were the butt of fashion jokes. Those colors! The size of the pants! The chunky shoes! Amazing how anyone deigns to point fingers, knowing full well that all trends come back eventually.
This was a decade that saw the mainstreaming of hip-hop culture, the rise and fall of grunge, and a huge boom in TV shows aimed at style-hungry teenagers and twentysomethings. Nostalgia for those shows is at an all-time high as the millennials who grew up with them come of age, and now those bright colors, wild prints, plaids, high-tops, thick heels, and combat boots are back in closets and on runways.
So, no more mocking.

It’s time once again to revere the groundbreaking style of “Blossom,” “Moesha,” and “Clarissa Explains It All.” Let Angela Chase and Daria stomp their way back into your disgruntled graces. The “Fresh Prince of Bel Air” couldn’t be fresher (and he could make another fortune if he saved any of his sneakers).
Rachel and Monica, new mules and loafers await you. Ally McBeal’s stacked heels can click back into the courtroom, while the “Saved by the Bell” and “Beverly Hills, 90210” (original flavor) gang can probably watch their children pick up where their Keds left off.
“Twin Peaks” is coming back to the small screen soon, and with it, perhaps, Audrey’s throwback saddle shoes.
Jennifer Lopez has moved on to bigger and better things, but if the Fly Girls of “In Living Color“ ever want to get back into their dancing shoes, they would be style icons.
