Abby Wambach played in her final soccer match on Wednesday night in Nike Mercurial Superfly cleats and in unfortunate ending, the U.S. lost their first game at home since 2004. And even though Wambach didn’t score in her last game, the night was about honoring her incredible career and bidding adieu to America.
In her final words to her fans and teammates, Wambach said, “I love this team, this country and it has been my pleasure and my honor to represent you all, the fans, for as long as I have been able to. But the reality is, as I think symbolically the way that this game went, means that for this team and for me, I can walk away. The future is so bright . . .”
