Buzz Builds In Anticipation Of Amazon Prime Day On July 12

Amazon is preparing for its second annual Prime Day on Tuesday by rolling out daily countdown deals until then.

The shopping event aims to offer exclusive deals comparable to Black Friday. With a yearly membership priced at $99 — or half-off for students — new Amazon Prime users can sign up for a free 30-day trial to take advantage of savings. Prime members in the U.S., U.K., Spain, Japan, Italy, Germany, France, Canada, Belgium and Austria will be able to make the most of Prime Day deals.

Worldwide members ordered 398 items per second during last year’s Prime Day, exceeding Black Friday records at the time, according to a company press release.

Last year, discounts on footwear averaged around 30 percent across styles. As part of its “Lightning Deals,” or miniflash sales on specific items, shoes were also been included in the offerings. During last year’s Prime Day, KedsTimberland boots, David Pliner Chelsea boots, Asics Gel running shoes for men and more were included in the flash sale roundup.

There will be more than 100,000 deals worldwide available exclusively on Prime, with shoppers able to use Prime Now, a new part of Prime Day that allows customers in a growing number of cities to get select deals delivered in an hour or less. Since Prime Day last year, Prime Now has added 33 new metropolitan areas in six countries to the service. Users can also track and shop deals on shoes, apparel, electronics, household goods and more.

This year marks a two-fold increase in the number of small business sellers around the world participating in Prime Day.

On Amazon Prime Day, U.S. members can shop online right after Monday becomes Tuesday in the Pacific Time Zone.
