Andy Warhol Shoe Designs Surpass Expectations, Fetch $416K At Auction

Earlier today we brought your attention to a collection of Andy Warhol shoe prints going under the hammer at Sotheby’s in the United Kingdom.

The portfolio comprised of 16 framed offset lithographs featuring Warhol shoe designs, accompanied by text written by poet Ralph Pomeroy and executed by Warhol’s mother, Julia Warhola. Included in the lot was a hand-colored double page cover.

The listing originally estimated the sale price at between 100,000 and 150,000 GBP, which at the time equated to between 143,470 and 215,205 USD. We can now confirm the lot sold for 293,000 GBP, approximately 416,000 USD.

The illustrations were created in 1955, during Warhol’s time working as a commercial artist for shoe company I. Miller.
