Vans Unveils Pro Skater Anthony Van Engelen’s Second Signature Sneaker

Vans has unveiled Anthony Van Engelen second signature sneaker, the AVE 2.0.

Coming five years after its predecessor first launched, the AVE 2.0 takes on a radical transformation with an all-new knit upper. Zonal construction gives extra stretch above the foot and at the collar, while an open knit at midfoot brings breathability and a denser knit at the heel bolsters structure and durability. Stitchless construction through Vans RapidWeld technology adds suede paneling for the vamp, lower-most eyestays and toe box, and a TPU heel cage brings even greater lockdown.

An UltimateWaffle sole system combines Vans’ UltraCush cushioning with a TPU midfoot support and grippy SickStick outsole.

For its debut color scheme, the AVE 2.0 mixes cream and white with black branding and pops of neon green, the latter of which peaks out from a partially translucent midsole.

Van Engelen, who’s been a pro skater for 25 years, said in a press release: “20 years ago, skate shoes just gave the appearance of tech. Now, we’re in the future, where that technical design extends to the shoe’s performance.”

The Vans AVE 2.0 will release Thursday, March 28, through Vans’ website and select skate shops. A small run of apparel will also drop alongside the sneakers, and Vans will bring Van Engelen on a promotional gallery tour beginning in Los Angeles Thursday and followed by stops in Shanghai and Seoul. Pricing for the sneakers is set at $130.
