Atlanta Shoe Market: 4 Key Spring 2016 Trends

Buyers and brands were out in force at the Atlanta Shoe Market over the weekend. The show wrapped up Monday at the Cobb Galleria Center in Atlanta and saw a 10 percent bump in attendance from retailers compared to last year.

FN talked to attendees to see what the top trends for spring ’16 were shaping out to be. Here’s what is buzzing from the shoe floor:

1. Athleisure Soles & Comfort Elements

From cream colored soles seen on Minnetonka moccasins to triple-height soles at Keds and on Teva sandals, athletic bottoms in shades of white were a key story for many brands aiming to bring in an athleisure element to their collections.

Styles from Skechers’ Go Walk label along with fashion-focused designs from Birkenstock, also featured unique soles, in both whites and color.

2. Mint Green & Aqua Colorways

From Nanette Lepore’s fashion line, to Keen’s Uneek for women — aqua and pastel mint colors were a big seller for brands’ collections, at just about any price point.

3. Bohemian Influences

Fringe continued to be a key element seen at many brands and at varying price points — from Nanette Lepore to Chinese Laundry, we spied fringing throughout. Additionally, ghillie and gladiator sandals continued their momentum in spring ’16 buys.

5. Multi-Use Outdoor

Versatile outdoor shoes, that go from garden to trail and street, were a key sales driver for brands like Keen, Columbia and Bogs. Rubber, anti-slip bottoms were hot, as was waterproofing. Many labels were clearly also focused on adding fashion elements and popular colors to styles, adding to their versatility.
