Converse has teamed up with British bespoke tailor Sir Tom Baker as part of its ongoing celebration of punk culture.
To mark the 40th anniversary of a movement that revolutionized both the music and fashion worlds, the Boston-based sneaker brand is releasing a limited run of a special Chuck Taylor All Star ’70 design that highlights Baker’s rebellious, rock ‘n’ roll approach to style.
The iconic high-top silhouette has been reimagined with an asymmetric alligator flocked print — a playful reference to the crushed-velvet fabrics of Baker’s suits — accented with a lamé-sheen yarn upper and tongue. Soft goat leather covers the toecap, ankle patch and heel stay, and the words “Do What Thou Wilt, So Mote Be It” are embossed along the midsole. The unusual phrase is a tongue-and-cheek nod to the occult and Baker’s more famous clientele over the years, who include members of the Sex Pistols, Led Zeppelin and Queen.

“I wanted to create something dramatic and eye-catching, maximizing the sneaker’s surface area with as much arresting visual content as possible without appearing to be cliché,” Baker said.
Available exclusively in black, each pair of Chuck ’70 sneakers comes with an alligator-print dust bag and an extra set of pink waxed-leather laces. Priced at $140, the sneaker will be available for purchase beginning this Friday at Converse stores, online at Converse.com and at select First String retailers worldwide.
