Julia Roberts Removes Heels And Walks Barefoot At Cannes Film Festival

Laughing in the face of tradition, Julia Roberts made her Cannes Film Festival debut a memorable one.

The Oscar-winning actress removed her heels as she ascended the staircase at Palais des Festivals on Thursday in Cannes, France, at the screening of her movie “Money Monster” — the first time that one of her films has been featured at the festival.

Roberts posed for photos alongside her director Jodie Foster, co-star George Clooney and his wife, Amal, wearing an off-the-shoulder floor-length black Armani Privé gown that hid her shoes.

The A-list star slipped off the footwear and howled with laughter as she climbed the venue’s famous red steps. A handler helped her back in the shoes after she made her way to the top.

Last year, the festival’s dress code caused a torrent of comment, referred to as “#heelgate,” when 50 women were refused entry to the screening of “Carol” because they were wearing flats.

Cannes Film Festival policy mandates that females wear heels on the red carpet.

On Wednesday, Kristen Stewart kicked off her Christian Louboutin heels after posing for photos and then strutted across a lawn barefoot.
