Rihanna Says She’s Inspired By Kids Who Are ‘Doing Things Their Own Way’

On Tuesday night, Rihanna became the first woman to win Footwear News‘ Shoe of the Year Award at the FN Achievement Awards. Her Fenty Puma Creeper has been a huge hit over the past year, selling out in hours and giving a major boost to Puma’s sales. Rihanna was on hand to accept the award, presented by FN editorial director Michael Atmore. She wore a pair of black-and-white Creepers and a Vetements outfit and hat for the event.

In her speech, she said the award is “a big deal” for her and that it makes her proud to be a woman and “proud to be a woman from Barbados, especially.” She thanked the team at Puma, and also gave a shoutout to “all the Creeperheads out there” and to “all the kids in the street that inspire me just by doing things their own way.”

Before the awards started, Rihanna got to meet fellow FNAA guests Cuba Gooding Jr. and Dascha Polanco.
