The worst of the storm is over in South Carolina, but residual flooding had its impact on some retailers in the state.
At Phillips Shoes, owner Bobby Krivohlavek said the store’s downtown Charleston and Mt. Pleasant locations were shuttered due to road closures by police.
However, said the retailer, the stores opened their doors on Sunday, with the bulk of the traffic from downtown Charleston residents stranded in the area. “People were coming in for rain boots,” he said, the bright spot in the weather story.
In Forest Acres, S.C., Blain Pritcher, manager of SAS, said the store suffered damage to its carpeting, however there was no damage to inventory. “We’re open today,” he said, “but still in disrepair.”
There were some bright spots in the area. According to Aaron Davis, manager of Houser Shoes in Columbia, S.C., it was business as usual, with the store escaping the flood conditions in the downtown area.

At Z Feet in Charlotte, N.C., store owner Ken Zelin said while the store was not impacted by the storm, shipments of Aetrex footwear, a key brand for the retailer were affected. “FedEx couldn’t ship,” said Zelin, about his Aetrex distributor, Skye Medical in Irmo, S.C., just outside Columbia, who has not been able to ship product on yesterday and today.
