Steve Madden‘s exclusive collaboration with rapper Ja Rule, called Maven x Madden, for pre-fall ’15 is now available for purchase. The rapper, who served a short prison sentence ending in 2013, has been busy lately. In 2014, MTV revealed that the rapper and his family will star on a show on the channel called “Follow the Rules,” premiering in October. And this month, Ja Rule also released four new singles.
The collaboration was announced in February and debuted at FN Platform in Las Vegas. The line features high- and low-top sneakers in leather and suede, with metallic details, handcuff eyelets and skeletons. The brand says these details are meant to evoke the obstacles both Madden and Ja Rule have overcome.
Speaking about Ja Rule, Madden said “he came to the table with all of these ideas. He’s an awesome guy. We click. It’s been fun to collaborate with artists. I enjoy it. I enjoy the creative spark.”

Ja Rule said he wanted to partner with Madden to create a line that is both stylish and affordable.
“I love all the styles, but my favorites, I would have to say, are the high-top suede and the high-top dress shoe,” he said. “The maven motorcycle-style boot is different from anything out there. The key on the front of the shoe represents freedom: freedom to be creative.”
The Maven x Madden collection is available at select Steve Madden stores, SteveMadden.com, Macy’s, Dillard’s and several other specialty retailers. The line retails from $145 to $195.
