Vans & Takashi Murakami Celebrate Collection With a Party in Paris

To celebrate the release of the Vault by Vans collection, a collab with renowned Japanese designer Takashi Murakami, the brand and Murakami hosted a press conference and party on Sunday at the Hotel du Grand Veneur in Paris.

The venue — the gallery of noteworthy art dealer Emmanuel Perrotin — held new works of art created by Murakami solely for the event.

Murakami sat with Steve Mills, VP of Global Footwear Merchandising, and host Michael Dupouy, author of the annual streetwear book All Gone, for the press conference, where the three discussed the brand and the designer’s partnership and Murakami’s creative process.

“As someone who wears Vans Slip-Ons nearly every day, the brand is as familiar to me as my own skin,” Murakami said in a statement.

The collection was released on June 27, with retail prices starting at $40 for kids and $75 for adults. The styles use Murakami’s well-known imagery, from skulls to flowers.
