Katie Holmes Sports Trendy Mary Jane Flats at ‘What’s Left Unsaid’ Book Launch

Katie Holmes celebrated the launch of Melissa DeRosa’s new book “What’s Left Unsaid” at Hotel Chelsea held in New York on Monday.

Worn with sheer black tights, the “Dawson’s Creek” star attended the event in a pair of black Mary Jane-inspired women’s flats. The hybrid pair featured high-shine patent leather uppers and a thin strappy construction accompanied by rounded toes with and silver buckle closures. The flats sat atop what appeared to be short square heels that gave the thespian a subtle lift.

The shoe offered Holmes’ ensemble a timeless quality, given the classic nature of the silhouette and the shoe style it was inspired by. Ballet flats are a go-to style for many celebrities, Holmes included. The shoe silhouette has become increasingly popular in 2023 thanks in part to brands like Maison Margiela and Miu Miu among others.

Expertly dressed, the “Batman Begins” actress was outfitted in a Junya Watanabe pleated trench coat dress cast in beige and olive green hues. The garment was sleeveless and maxi-length, consisting of stretch cotton and an accordion-pleated cotton blend. The dress also includes button and embroidered eyelet detailing all throughout, an integrated pin-buckle belt and buttoned flap pockets centered around the waist, zipper closure on the side and tonal hardware.

Holmes is best known for her classic “everywoman” style, often re-wearing beloved pieces year-round. On the footwear front, the “All We Had” director keeps her selections classic with Veja and Adidas sneakers, Gucci loafers and Bottega Veneta mules.

Beyond her sharp off-duty shoes, Holmes’ ties to the fashion industry have also earned her an Olay brand ambassador title, as well as starring in campaigns for Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, Miu Miu and Ann Taylor. Additionally, Holmes was the co-founder of the fashion line Holmes & Yang, launched with her then-stylist Jeanne Yang, from 2011 to 2014.
