Lizzo Makes a Case for Ankle Socks With ‘Ugly’ Slides

Lizzo shared a carousel of casual selfies and videos on her Instagram Thursday dressed in pieces from Chanel. The caption read, “Walk in Chanel— they like how the fuck u need more Chanel?”

Accompanied by black ankle-length socks, Lizzo sported a pair of chunky black “ugly” slides. The “Truth Hurts” songstress’ slides featured a slip-on construction with breezy open toes and thick straps that sat overtop her feet, securing the footwear in place. The slides were also equipped with a non-slip tread.

Slides of all kinds can be dressed up or down depending on what piece the shoe is partnered with. As in Lizzo’s application, though, the shoe is especially popular with casual looks. The performer’s footwear falls under the category of “ugly” sandals, a trend that, despite its name, has become associated with some of the most on-trend celebrities and fashion influencers. “Ugly sandals” are often marked by large straps and an oversized chunky construction, usually prioritizing comfort and foot support over trends that don’t emphasize practicality.

The musician sported a cozy two-piece set in black comprised of an oversized hoodie and matching baggy sweats. Accessorizing her look, the hitmaker donned large black sunglasses from Chanel with gold double C detailing on the sides which she wore with coordinating gold dangling Chanel earrings.

The “Rumors” singer is known for regularly wearing sleek footwear styles to complement her outfits. For performances, she’s known often wears lace-up combat boots with studs, crystals, and monochrome palettes from brands like Prada. When it comes to the red carpet, she’s also worn tall boots by Ugg and Fashion to Figure.

For formal occasions, Lizzo elevates her looks with crystal and wrapped sandals by Stuart Weitzman, Staud, Jimmy Choo, and more top brands.
