This week, FN’s sneaker columnist Stacey Griffith—senior master instructor at SoulCycle—highlights the recent Vans collaboration with artist Takashi Murakami. See her thoughts on the sneaker style below:
“If happiness had a sneaker attached to it, it would probably be a Vans sneaker. Being a California native, I grew up wearing the shoes—I had it in every slip-on and lace-up, and in every color combination there was. As a kid, you were nothing unless you owned a pair of Vans! After I slid my foot into these by Murakami at SoulCycle, just to see if they looked good, I knew I had to have them.
This collaboration is one of the most electric ideas I’ve seen. And for those of us who can’t afford to hang a Murakami plate on our walls (they go for a few million a pop!), we can at least experience that million dollar feeling on our feet. Louis Vuitton also did a collection of bandanas with Murakami, so if you happen to have that, you could easily rock them with your Murakami Vans. Just add a pair of crispy white Current Elliot boyfriend jeans, and a baby blue tee.”
