“Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty” By The Numbers

The “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty” retrospective, which had been open from March 14 to August 2 at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, has closed its doors.

The exhibition was hugely popular — the museum reports that it brought in 495,043 visitors from 87 countries, which is the most in the venue’s history. For the final two weekends, the museum stayed open through the night to accommodate the high demand.

Now, the museum has released a two-minute video that reveals behind-the-scenes footage of the exhibit. According to the film, 10 conservators spent almost 5,000 hours preparing for the exhibit. The show’s accompanying book sold more than 80,000 copies, placing it on the U.K.’s best-selling nonfiction chart.

Last month, FN reported that Lady Gaga was the new owner of three pairs of McQueen Armadillo boots that were up for auction by Christie’s. Similar shoes were on display at the Victoria and Albert Museum. Gaga’s fiancé, Taylor Kinney, purchased the three pairs for a combined $295,000. The proceeds are being donated to earthquake-relief efforts in Nepal.
