Charlotte Olympia Debuts ‘Kitty Unplugged’ Flats Collection

Charlotte Olympia‘s Kitty flats got a big rock-and-roll makeover for fall. The designer’s signature shoe style already has big personality, but a new capsule collection called “Kitty Unplugged” takes inspiration from some hard rockers.

The limited edition shoes draw inspiration from Elvis, The Sex Pistols, Kiss and Grunge music to create four unique shoes that embrace the spirit of each musical genre. The Elvis style, decked out in blue velvet, has the iconic curl of hair drawn over one eye. Kiss Kitty naturally gets a bit of face paint. The Sex Pistols inspired flat comes not just all done up in plaid but a tiny safety-pin where the whiskers are paying homage to the punk rock movement.

“We liked working with bands that have a recognizable image already,” designer Charlotte Olympia Dellal told Footwear News. “The iconic images were already there. You know, the glam rock, the punk rock and grunge rock.”

The designer was on hand Wednesday Oct. 21 for an in-store appearance at Saks Fifth Avenue, and had a store appearance earlier in the week at her own store on Madison Avenue. She jets off to Miami tomorrow after hosting close friends for a dinner tonight.

The collection is available in-store and online starting next month.

Dellal said that her New York trip had been particularly fun because she’d been in town with her son.

“Well I am here with my son so we did little boy things like the Empire State Building and the Intrepid, Statue of Liberty and Forbidden Planet,” she said. “New York is always beautiful with the clear blue sky, so we’ve been happy to be here.”
