7 Of Coco Chanel’s Best Quotes

Legendary designer Coco Chanel was born on this day in 1883, and 105 years after she opened her first shop on Paris’ Rue Cambon in 1910, her legacy lives on through the house’s expansive ready-to-wear and couture collections, accessories, beauty items and shoes.

A decade after Chanel passed away in 1971 at the age of 88, designer Karl Lagerfeld took the helm of the house — and has been there ever since. Chanel counts celebrities such as Beyoncé, Cara Delevingne and Kendall Jenner as fans. For Couture Week in July, Lagerfeld made actresses Kristen Stewart and Julianne Moore part of the label’s casino-themed show.

In honor of her birthday, FN highlights some of Coco Chanel’s best quotes.

“A woman with good shoes is never ugly.”
