Ermenegildo Zegna Confirms Alessandro Sartori Return

Alessandro Sartori is joining the Ermenegildo Zegna Group as its new artistic director, with responsibility across all Zegna brands and for all creative functions. This confirms a WWD report on Feb. 1 that Sartori would return to the brand.

He is to join the Italian men’s wear group in June and his first collection will be for the fall-winter 2017 season that will be shown in Milan in January 2017. The designer is to report to chief executive officer Gildo Zegna.

“I’ve known Alessandro and his style for many years and I am extremely excited to welcome him back to our group,” said Gildo Zegna. “His talent, creativity, passion and modernity make him the perfect fit to help us take Zegna to the next phase of its development.”

Expressing his gratitude to Zegna and the family-owned company, Sartori noted that he “grew up watching and admiring their creations and their authentic and deep values and I am extremely excited to write with the whole Zegna team the next chapter. I cannot wait to enter in their fabulous archives and to meet their artisans to start working on the new collections.”

After a five-year collaboration, Sartori left the top design post at Berluti earlier this week, as reported. The designer had joined Berluti after eight years at the creative helm of Z Zegna , Ermenegildo Zegna’s more fashion-oriented brand that was launched in 2003. Born and raised in Biella, a mountain town in the northeastern corner of Italy famed for its wool production, Sartori joined Zegna in 1989 after graduating from design school in Milan.

As reported, Stefano Pilati exited Ermenegildo Zegna Group earlier this week after a three-year tenure at the helm of its couture line and fashion shows.
