What Designers Are Reading This Summer

Even busy designers have a summer reading list. Spy caught up with a few industry insiders to find out what books they can’t put down.

Rebecca Minkoff
“Champagne Supernovas,” by Maureen Callahan. “It dives into the 1990s fashion scene — particularly the pivotal year 1992 and how it changed the landscape of the industry. It’s a great read, and it stresses how important it is to be a rule-breaker and blaze your own path in this business.”

George Esquivel
“Becoming a Supple Leopard,” by Kelly Starrett. “I’m on a mission to overcome all the aches and pains that come with age and nonstop travel.”

Chloe Gosselin
“I’m reading ‘Gods And Kings: The Rise and Fall of Alexander McQueen and John Galliano,’ by Dana Thomas. I am both fascinated and frightened by the book — all the insights and details about how both McQueen and Galliano built their brands, but also how difficult the industry makes it for designers to keep up. Very, very interesting and a must-read for everybody who loves fashion.”

Nicole Miller
“‘Killing Monica,’ by Candace Bushnell. I always love her post-’Sex and the City’ novels. It’s a good summer beach read with a surprising twist.”

Jerome Dreyfuss
“‘Kafka on the Shore,’ by Haruki Murakami. I love the magic of the world he writes.”
