The mood: Artist in his atelier
The shoes: Russo, who offered up another tightly-edited collection this season, said he aspired to take his vision for dressing up a women’s leg to the next level.
“I wanted to make shoes that are like lingerie for your feet,” he said. New materials this season included micro-studding, patched pony hair, glossed water snake leather and new Vibram soles on oxfords and boots. “Season after season, we propose new colors and materials,” said Russo, who continued to focus on his preferred color palette of blush, rouge and taupe.
The custom equation: Russo understands that his customers sometimes enjoy an extra flourish or two. The designer hit Los Angeles during Oscars Week and set up a temporary atelier in luxury retailer Just One Eye.
He offered L.A. clients the chance to customize on of two styles, his raised-back pump and pointed crocodile sandal in one of 20 colors. One customer chose Mickey Mouse as an added adornment. “In 48 hours, we were delivering the finished product.”
