Handbag Label Mansur Gavriel Launches First Shoe Line During NYFW

Monday night in New York, Mansur Gavriel held a very pink presentation (that certain shade of irreverent rose that is all the rage these days) at The Swiss Institute in SoHo.

Known for their minimal bucket bags and totes, designers Floriana Gavriel and Rachel Mansur have been busy since their win for Accessory Designer of The Year at the CFDAs this past spring. The result? Their first footwear collection, an equally focused affair.

On display were platform mules, their chunky suede profile very ’90s in spirit. The heel was offered in three versions including a criss-cross, two-strap and mono-strap style in shades of Yves Klein blue, rust and a siren red. FN caught up with Gavriel and Mansur to hear more about what’s in store.

Tell us about your new shoes:
Mansur: “The shoe collection includeds four new styles with five various heel heights and will be produced in suede or vegetable tanned leather.”

What inspired the collection?
Gavriel: “Clean geometry, perfected minimalism and rich color.”

Why was now the right time to launch shoes?
Gavriel: “We have been developing for a couple seasons and now feel ready logistically and creatively.”

What style is your personal favorite?
Mansur and Gavriel: “We love the 4 cm heel- it feels elegant and special.”

Footwear is a crowded market – what is your point of differentiation?
Mansur: “We always thinks of the brand as a whole and how our products relate to one another, rather than their context to the market specifically.”
