Ida Petersson, who was recently promoted to buying manager for shoes and accessories at Net-a-Porter, shares her top picks for fall 2016.
Top collections in Europe: “Off the runway, Gianvito Rossi was a highlight. I absolutely loved the green and red satin as well as the military button detailing on the sandals in particular. Aquazzura, inspired by Russia, was another fantastic collection. It was Edgardo Osorio’s most intricate one to date. Our favorite pieces are the suede boot with military buttons that we have exclusively, the velvet embroidered boots and the brocade velvet booties. In terms of runway collections, Gucci was incredibly strong; I could have bought the entire collection. Highlights included the new square-toe loafer pump, the red suede wedge, the retro metallic sandals and of course the zebra shoe with tail.”

Trend you loved: “Military. We’re definitely buying into velvet – we saw it everywhere in all manner of silhouettes. Shearling and faux fur shoes continue to trend. We saw it from the big houses such as Fendi and Miu Miu and from the likes of Avec Moderation, whose price points are fantastic.”
New names to watch: “Dorateymur, Mansur Gabriel and Martiniano are brands that we just launched on site, and we are excited to add The Row footwear from Prefall 16; the collection exceeded all expectations. We have a number of other fantastic new brands launching at the start of the summer, so watch the space.”
Overall buying strategy in times of global uncertainty: “Trans-seasonal product is increasingly important as our buy caters to a global customer. We back runway in a major way, while making sure that our edit offers the best of the best to our customer. Securing exclusive products and capsules is also of great importance to our business.”
