Meet Olgana Paris: France’s Most Elegant New Shoe Label

“The history of Paris and haute couture inspire everything I do,” said Olga Molbieva Djanguirov, founder and designer of new women’s footwear label Olgana Paris. Started in 2014, the line, which specializes in the type of formalwear details usually reserved for custom creations — think accordion pleating, intricate appliqué work and bespoken bows — has been quickly scooped up by top retailers such as Dover Street Market and Barneys.

Indeed, Alberto Oliveros, buying manager of Level Shoe District, told Footwear News this “couture approach” and “impeccable technique” is what convinced him to pick up the collection from its inception.

Djanguirov’s eye for precision comes from a rigorous upbringing in Russia before her family moved to France. “I always loved fashion, but my mother said I had to study medicine first,” said the Moscow-born designer, who cited Francesco Russo and Azzedine Alaïa as names she admires. “I never practiced [medicine], though, because this other world always had my heart.”

After studying at École du Louvre, Djanguirov went to China to learn how shoes are made. She now manufactures in Parrabiago, Italy, with her collection retailing from $638 and up. For spring ’16, the label debuted a White Tie bridal offering.

While the designer believes her silk, exotic leather and fur designs could easily be paired with a “le smoking” jacket or “le jeans and T-shirt,” they also call to mind the glamorous champagne-drenched world of ballrooms, diamonds and heaps of caviar. It makes good sense then that due to demand Djanguirov also recently introduced a White Tie bridal collection.

“I don’t think many people are doing this kind of special, extremely refined style anymore,” she conceded of her intricate stilettos, pumps and sandals. Olgana Paris has already been noticed by discerning customers such as Céline Dion Natalie Portman, for whom Djanguirov said she would gladly remake her shoes to be vegan: “She’s the type of elegant woman I am appealing to.”
